School of Science & Technology- Discovery is Hiring a Campus Special Education Coordinator Near San Antonio, TX

We are currently seeking qualified and dedicated individuals to coordinate Special Education, Section 504, and Dyslexia Programs for the 2024-2025 academic year at our PK-7 campus.

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale & Stipend

Work Hours: 7:10 AM to 3:40 PM (201 days)

JOB ROLES:

  • Coordinate Special Education, Section 504, and Dyslexia Programs in compliance with federal, state, and district requirements and ensure the provision of effective instructional and related services per IEPs and 504 plans developed based on individual student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas Educator Certification with required special education endorsement.
  • Minimum 2 years of special education teaching experience (Preferred)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Trains special population and general education teachers, as well as other staff, to ensure understanding and compliance with student confidentiality laws at both state and federal levels.
  • Participates in professional development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
  • Assists school administration in scheduling classes for SPED instruction.
  • Assists in planning and implementing staff development and in-service programs for special education.
  • Monitors academic progress of SPED/504 students using formative and summative evaluations, coordinating instruction and scheduling based on assessment results.
  • Manages and maintains all required reports, records, and documents as mandated by district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensures SPED classroom(s) and/or instructional environment is safe, organized, and conducive to learning, with accessibility to all students.
  • Establishes and maintains written and oral communication with parents, students, administrators, and teachers.
  • Collaborates with district personnel and regional service centers to implement school-wide activities that educate SPED/504 students and their parents about available services and programs.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to ensure SPED/504 students' instructional needs are being met.
  • Advocates for SPED/504 students to ensure they have an equitable educational opportunity.
  • Continuously communicates with students about instructional expectations and their progress.
  • Support teachers and administrators in deploying strategies that address the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Supports implementation of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom and during Special Education service time.
  • Ensures the instructional program is tailored to diverse learning styles and effectively implemented.
  • Ensure timely distribution of modifications, accommodations, and IEPs to relevant staff, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Plan and administer programs and services that address identified needs, including the creation of new initiatives.
  • Plans, prepares, and facilitates ARD/504 meetings, and serves as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal/504 Committee.
  • Participates in placement decisions based on educational, sociological, and physiological data presented to the committee.
  • Assist school personnel in creating an inclusive educational environment for all students.
  • Develop new objectives based on evaluation findings to recommend to the ARD Committee.
  • Assess the relationship between student performance and their disabilities.
  • Performs related work as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
  • Occasional night and weekend activities may be required.
  • Office-based position with prolonged desk work.
  • Moderate travel is required.

SALARY & STIPENDS:

  • Salary Placement: Based on professional and teaching experience with a STEP increase of $250 for each year of approved experience. Maximum step is 30.
  • Additional Stipends:
  • Tier I Experience Stipend:
  • Teachers on steps 5-9 receive an additional $1,000 annually.
  • Tier II Experience Stipend:
  • Teachers on steps 10-30 receive an additional $2,000 annually.
  • Advanced Degrees: Additional annual stipends of $1000 for a Master’s degree and $2500 for a Doctoral degree.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $62,000.00 - $69,500.00 per year
