School of Science & Technology- Discovery is Hiring a K-5 Art/Music Teacher Near San Antonio, TX

We are currently searching for qualified and dedicated teachers to teach Art & Music to K-5 grade students for the 2024-2025 academic year at our PK-7 campus.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold a valid Texas Teacher Certificate for the specific grade level.

Art/Music Teaching Position Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or Music Education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Art and Music theory and practice.
  • Experience in or knowledge of a variety of artistic mediums (e.g., painting, sculpture) and musical instruments (e.g., piano, violin).

Duties and Responsibilities for Art/Music:

  • Develop and implement curriculum that includes a wide range of artistic and musical techniques and theories.
  • Organize and lead art and music projects that cater to the range of skills and developmental stages of elementary students.
  • Manage and oversee the care of art supplies and musical tools/instruments, ensuring they are available and in good condition for student use.
  • Plan, organize, and direct grade-level performances and art shows, possibly integrating these with other curriculum subjects.
  • Incorporate technology into the art and music curriculum (e.g., using software for music composition, art creation tools).
  • Collaborate with other teachers to integrate art and music into other subjects.
  • Foster an appreciation of the arts and music in students, encouraging their creative expressions.

TEACHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a program of study that caters to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Prepare lesson plans that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
  • Be prepared for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation when requested by immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to the students.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in district and campus staff development.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Submit lesson plans in a timely manner on the platform used by the school.
  • Maintain a minimum number of grades in the Gradebook in a timely manner.
  • Meet with the mentor teacher regularly (if new teacher).
  • Perform other assigned duties.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to organize special programs for the assigned campus.
  • Proficiency in using computer software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Light work that may occasionally require light lifting.
  • May require setup and breakdown of art displays and musical performance sets.
  • Occasionally required to participate in evening and weekend activities.
  • Position is in a classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking, and writing.
  • Moderate travel may be required.

  • Salary Placement: Based on professional and teaching experience with a STEP increase of $250 for each year of approved experience. Maximum step is 30.
  • Additional Stipends:
  • Tier I Experience Stipend:
  • Teachers on steps 5-9 receive an additional $1,000 annually.
  • Tier II Experience Stipend:
  • Teachers on steps 10-30 receive an additional $2,000 annually.
  • Advanced Degrees: Additional annual stipends of $1000 for a Master’s degree and $2500 for a Doctoral degree.
  • Supplemental Duty Stipends: Various stipends for additional responsibilities, such as district department chair, Saturday tutoring, and campus coordinators.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $55,000.00 - $62,500.00 per year
