ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The mission of Sunshine Gospel Ministries (SGM) is to seek the renewal of the city through ministries of discipleship, mercy and justice. POSITION SUMMARY

The BridgeBuilders Program Manager (PM) oversees and manages the BridgeBuilders (BB) experiential service-learning program at SGM. In this role, the PM will design, build, and share stories that resonate with audiences. The BB model involves key words: listen (experience life in the Woodlawn community), learn (lessons around topics such as the history of the south side of Chicago, the biblical concept of shalom, poverty, racial injustice, policing inequities, white privilege, and others), serve (service projects in the community), and return (participants taking the experience and concepts learned at BB back to their own communities to serve as agents of discipleship, mercy and justice.) The PM is responsible for recruiting persons and groups to participate in both online and in person experiences and events. They will manage and oversee all online and in person BB group experiences and events along with other BB staff, interns and volunteers. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the BB Program and all its activities.
  • Lead and work in a team setting to carry out the BB program as outlined above.
  • Collaborate with thought leaders and project leaders to develop content for presentations, website, social media, etc.
  • Work with Marketing Team to archive and maintain story media (verbal, written, photos) in a story bank that is searchable.
  • Work with Marketing Team to create and implement a shared classification system to tag and organize all content.
  • Utilize the story bank content to leverage the power of the narrative to increase reach and impact in our community.
  • Create clear narratives and measure the success of each story.
  • Teach and facilitate lessons to BB participants during virtual and physical sessions. 
  • Coordinate housing, transportation and food requirements for on-site BB groups.
  • Shepherd BB staff members and interns as they grow in their faith and service with Sunshine Gospel Ministries.
  • Recruit churches, collegiate organizations, schools and individuals to participate in BB experiential service-learning events and experiences and virtual BB lessons and workshops.
  • Travel to churches, camps, conferences and other BB locations for recruiting. 
  • Develop and maintain follow-up strategies to sustain ministry relationships with churches, colleges/universities, schools, local/regional ministries, local community partners and individuals.
  • Work to develop new and maintain existing relationships with community partners of the BB programs.
  • Manage and approve BB communications to community members, the Sunshine community and BB participants. 
  • Establish BB goals & budgets as well as tracking revenues and expenses annually.
  • Develop and maintain a functional record keeping system for individual BB participants as well as churches, schools and other organizations.
  • Report BB dealings with supervisor in bi-weekly meetings. 
  • Review and approve work hours and compensation for BB staff and interns.
  • Coordinate across the Sunshine organization to ensure healthy collaboration with other staff and programs.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

RELATED DUTIES

  • This is a full-time position. 
  • During seasons when in-person groups are present, the PM will be required to work some evenings and weekends with a flexible work schedule.

EDUCATION SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • BA degree in a field that is directly relatable to urban ministry.
  • A minimum of 3 years working in an urban ministry setting or with a ministry dealing with urban, racial and justice issues.
  • A solid understanding of the biblical Christian faith.
  • Ability to teach topics related to faith, race and justice.
  • The ability to develop relationships across cultural barriers.
  • Cultural sensitivity to the African American community. 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the big picture.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, manage multiple priorities and juggle schedules.
  • Proficient planning and project management competency.
  • Proven track record of a creative mindset.
  • Superior writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to present to large groups.
  • Understanding of story structure, history of storytelling and use of storytelling across cultures.
  • Ability to bridge the past, present, and future by harmonizing the required elements of history and culture and articulating it verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop curriculum as needed.
  • Ability to harness and tell stories in a way that contributes to a strong culture.
  • Familiarity with modern mediums & channels; LinkedIn, Facebook Blogging, Instagram.
  • Must be able to manage and facilitate large group events and experiences utilizing a team of other staff, interns and volunteers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk and/or sit; use hands to fingers or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, push, lift, as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a public building and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
