The Role

Suffolk's goal is to transform how the world builds. Core to that vision is the leveraging of data and technology. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join our team as Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO will play a leading role in shaping our information technology strategy, delivering innovative solutions, and ensuring the effective use of technology to support our business objectives and drive growth. The CIO will be responsible for leading our Information Technology (IT) department and providing strategic direction for all aspects of our technology infrastructure, systems, and operations. This includes overseeing the development and execution of IT strategies, policies, and initiatives that align with the organization's overall goals and objectives.

Responsibilities
    Strategic Leadership: Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy for our IT infrastructure, systems, and processes, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Technology Innovation: Collaborate on efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies and digital solutions that drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and create value for our organization and stakeholders with a particular emphasis on AI and low code capabilities.
  • IT Operational Excellence: Ensure critical system availability, timely delivery of technology initiatives, and effective IT governance frameworks, policies, procedures, and control environment to ensure the security, integrity, and compliance of our technology systems and data.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence. Mentor and develop team members and leaders to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships and collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the organization, including senior leadership, department heads, and business units to understand their technology needs and priorities and deliver solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the IT department budget, allocating resources effectively to support strategic initiatives and operational requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness, fiscal responsibility and scale economies.
  • Vendor and Partner Management: Manage relationships with external vendors, service providers, and technology partners, negotiating effective enterprise agreements (where appropriate) and ensuring effective delivery of services and solutions that meet our business needs and technical standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business administration, computer science, information technology, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree is preferred. Experience in the construction industry and/or field operations a plus.
  • Proven experience as a CIO or in a similar senior leadership role of an IT department, with a track record of strategic leadership, effective operations, and successful implementation of IT initiatives and IT-enabled business initiatives. Proven experience in areas such as cybersecurity, strategic vendor management, UX design, and low code development a plus.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align IT strategies with the overall goals and objectives of the organization, driving innovation and efficiency to support business growth and success.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, develop leadership talent, foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing IT strategies, budgets, and plans, with a focus on delivering measurable results and driving continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Proven experience in balancing the (at times) competing objectives of Running, Growing, and Transforming the enterprise.
  • Proven experience in negotiating enterprise software agreements.
  • Proven experience in managing an IT control environment and serving as an effective steward of enterprise assets.
  • Ability to effectively manage a regionally dispersed team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, build consensus, influence decision-making at all levels of the organization, and effectively manage strategic vendor relationships.
Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
