Strategies To Empower People (S.T.E.P.), a Supported Living Services agency that supports adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, is currently seeking a full-time skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team.

The Maintenance Assistant assists the Maintenance Supervisor with maintaining and performing various maintenance and repairs, including retrofitting, for client’s homes and all agency buildings, including warehouses. Assists with overseeing agency fleet vehicles. Ensures the physical health and safety of dwellings, to include liaising with outside landlords, vendors, and county officials, while utilizing safe practices and procedures. Assists and supports all maintenance staff.

**Applicant must meet agency auto insurance policy age requirement of 25 years or older.**

EXPECTATIONS OF POSITION:

-Ensures the appropriate and timely repairs or maintenance for dwellings is prioritized to ensure the health and safety of client’s homes and agency buildings. Inspect for hazards, compliance, and any health and/or safety issues.

-Plan and lay out repair work. Assist with oversight of repairs conducted by maintenance staff.

-Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.

-Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings.

-Retrofit homes for safety as needed based on the needs of our clients. Arrange and consult with vendors for retrofitting of dwellings and buildings.

-Troubleshoot issues regarding utilities (ex: excessive water use, plumbing issues, etc.).

-Perform basic plumbing repair such as toilet replacement and leak repair.

-Build custom furniture pieces for clients as needed, including building ADA compliant wheelchair ramps.

-Repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.

-Perform painting, including preparation, application of paint, and clean up. Apply texture to drywall and patch holes in walls/ceilings.

-Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work. Provide detailed reports for billing purposes in a timely manner for our Finance department.

-Assists with overseeing agency fleet vehicles. Performs, or arranges for routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions. Assist with maintaining vehicle registration, insurance, etc.

-Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, hand tools, or power tools.

-Oversees and maintains company warehouses. Ensures cleanliness and safety. Oversees warehouse inventory.

-Provide groundskeeping services such as landscaping. Perform general cleaning duties of buildings or properties.

-Communicate all pertinent information to the appropriate person in a timely manner.

-Manage multiple tasks, projects, duties, and responsibilities with minimal or no supervision.

-Communicate with others in a professional manner and maintain a positive work environment.

-Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and employee information.

-Be punctual, flexible, reliable, adaptable, creative, patient, self-confident, and trustworthy.

EXPERIENCE:

-Be a High School graduate or possess a GED.

-Five (5) plus years of experience in household repairs and maintenance or property management.

-Experience with retrofitting.

-Experience with trouble shooting repairs and plans/diagnosis for repair.

-Experience with building/home repairs, plumbing, carpentry, fabricating, painting, and electrical maintenance.

-Experience with automobile maintenance.

-Experience with groundskeeping/landscaping.

-Possess valid CA driver license, and a safe, reliable, registered and currently insured vehicle.

- No DUI’s. Must have good driving record and willing to participate in our DMV Pull Program.

-Be cleared through post-offer criminal background check.

-Successfully pass post-offer drug screening test.

-Be able to read and write in the English language, in order to perform essential duties.

-Possess basic mathematical skills. Have good communication skills.

PAY FOR POSITION: $22-$25 per hour DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE. Mileage reimbursement included at $0.68 per mile, when applicable.

SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm. Flexible schedule, as needed, based on the needs of our clients and the agency.
