STEM Paths Innovation Network is Hiring a Program Manager II Near Seattle, WA

STEM Paths Innovation Network (SPIN) is a nonprofit offering K-12 instruction, mentoring and program development in science, technology, engineering, and math. Our mission is to close the opportunity gap for women and BIPOC communities in SPIN education and careers.

Position: SPIN Fellows Program Manager II

Reports to: Executive Director of Education

Location: Work from home and hybrid schedule (Must live in Greater Seattle Area by date of hire); in person teaching required.

Hours: This position has flexible hours depending on program need. Weekend and Evening work is sometimes required.

The following are the currently required Saturday events through Summer, 2024:

  • Saturday, April 13th
  • Saturday, May 11
  • Saturday May 25th
  • Saturday June 8th
  • Saturday June 15th

Position type: full time, non-exempt

Salary range: $62,400 - 72,800

Benefits: 10 vacation days available immediately, 11 paid holidays, generous sick leave and a flexible, family-friendly schedule. There is an additional week-long closure from December 25th through January 1st. Subsidized health insurance and Simple IRA with employer match.

Start date: Open until filled; hope to start in April, 2024.

About STEM Paths Innovation Network (SPIN): Our mission is to close the opportunity gap for women and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). We nurture curiosity, ignite passion, and build confidence to make STEM approachable and accessible. SPIN’s long-term vision is that ethnicity and gender do not hinder anyone’s ability or capacity to pursue careers in STEM.

About SPIN Fellows: SPIN Fellows empowers students with the individualized support and resources they need in their eleventh and twelfth grade years of high school, building on the trusted relationships they have fostered with their fellow SPIN Girls*, mentors, coaches and SPIN staff members. SPIN Fellows provides the following currently:

  • Junior High School Year - Exploring career paths, narrowing down interests, exploring colleges, SATs/AP Exams, exploring scholarships, college application prep, life skills, internship placement and support.
  • Rising Senior Summer - Internships (outlined below), reflections and presentations to incoming SPIN Fellows cohort and peers.
  • Senior year - Completing college/post-secondary applications, securing available funding, increasing network/support/connections, continuing post-secondary life skills, graduation celebration, internship placement and support.
  • Summer after graduation - Internships, reflections and presentations to incoming SPIN Fellows cohort and peers.
  • Alumni: Continue to support and provide opportunities for community building and mentoring

*Including cis girls, trans youth, gender queer youth, gender non-conforming and/or non-binary youth who experience(d) girlhood as a part of their journey.

About the Position:Do you love working with teenagers? Are you a connector, a communicator and a trusted advisor? SPIN is hiring a Program Manager II to manage our SPIN Fellows (SF) program. The PM II will support Fellows’ goals and connect Fellows with relevant resources to support their individual goals. The PM II manages a team that includes a Program Coordinator and works closely with the staff of our SPIN Girls 6-10th grade program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Individualized Support (25%)

  • Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins with Junior Fellows in ongoing development of individual goals
  • Develop annual individual plans for Junior Fellows including social/emotional and independent living skills.

Program Scheduling (10%)

  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator (PC) to develop Junior, Senior, and All-Fellows schedules
  • Develop template for individual plans for each Fellow and share with PC
  • Lead the creation of Junior, Senior and All-Fellows meeting foci
  • Serve as lead contact with existing and developing partners

Instruction & Facilitation (20%)

  • Facilitate workshops for All Fellows meetings
  • Coordinate panels, outside speakers, and other external engagements
  • Lead the development of assessment tools across cohorts
  • Implement assessments for Junior Fellows
  • Take part in regular program quality reviews and improvements
  • Collect and report attendance for Junior Fellows and identify any challenges or issues
  • Prepare regular updates for families to be shared by the PC through newsletters and other communications

Supervision (15%)

  • Train and support PC and other staff and volunteers supporting the program
  • Communicate PD and support needs to EDs

Alignment and Recruitment (10%)

  • Connect regularly with SPIN Girls 6-10 staff and lead SF recruitment process
  • Collaborate with PC and EDs to maintain alumni network for students, families and mentors

Reporting and grant management (10%)

  • Understand and collect student data for SPIN
  • Understand and report data for funders
  • Review grants and contribute to program design as needed
  • Manage SPIN Fellows budget

Organizational integration (10%)

  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Commit to attending staff mandatory fun, meeting team hours, and contributing to strategic planning and organizational growth for SPIN

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with facilitation and instruction
  • Strong research, data, and program management skills.
  • Passion for and commitment to providing equitable education.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Outstanding problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Comfort with technology and openness to learning new software.
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability to meet changing work goals and demands.
  • Ability to travel to multiple program sites and support logistical deliveries.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Experience in a social service, higher education, counseling or other related field
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Experience working with low-income students, included but not limited to Title 1 schools, and a familiarity with the unique gifts and needs of this population.
  • Multilingual, specifically in Spanish or Somali.
