STEAMspark is Hiring a Chef/Cook (Nutritional Guide) Near Farmers, TX

STEAMspark is looking for a Chef/Cook for our AMS-affiliated Private School, offering a top-tier educational journey. We seek a collaborator adept at crafting delectable, health-conscious meals while leveraging our kitchen as an integral learning space for our students. Our year-round programs cater to children ranging from infants to elementary-aged students.

Role & Responsibilities

Meal Preparation

  • Plan and prepare nutritious and well-balanced meals for students, faculty, and staff in accordance with school dietary guidelines and preferences.
  • Ensure that meals are prepared in a safe, sanitary, and efficient manner, adhering to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions as necessary, including allergies, food intolerances, and cultural preferences.

Menu Development

  • Collaborate with school administrators, nutritionists, and other stakeholders to develop seasonal menus that are diverse, appealing, and nutritionally balanced.
  • Incorporate fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, and promote sustainability and environmental consciousness in menu planning.

Cooking Classes

  • Design and lead cooking classes for children, teaching fundamental culinary skills, nutrition principles, and kitchen safety practices.
  • Develop lesson plans, recipes, and educational materials to support cooking classes and enhance students' understanding of food and cooking.

Kitchen Management

  • Manage inventory, ordering, and storage of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimizing waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and storage areas, overseeing cleaning schedules and procedures.
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff and student assistants, providing guidance and support to promote teamwork and excellence in food preparation.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a cook or chef in a professional kitchen, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of diverse cuisines, cooking techniques, and dietary considerations.
  • Food Manager certification and certification in food safety and sanitation (e.g., ServSafe) is preferred.
  • Experience teaching cooking classes or conducting culinary demonstrations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students of all ages.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a passion for healthy eating and culinary education.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit on the floor to assist with lessons.
  • Able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Salary

Hourly pay of $20 to $30 per hour with a Total Compensation Package up to $60,000 per year including Profit Sharing, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, and a Health Care Contribution
