One (1) year permanent service as a New York State employee in a title allocated Salary Grade 6 or higher,
OR
High School Diploma and two (2) years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software (e.g., email, word processing), provision of customer service, business writing, and management of an office.
Please Note: A typing performance test will be required for those interested employees outside of the Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) title series.
Candidates must have appropriate clerical skills, knowledge of proper office procedures, including experience with conventional and electronic data filing systems, be proficient in the operation of personal computers and various software including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, and Excel.
Responsible for timely preparation of Service Retirement Letters and Certificates.
Responsible for handling the Retiree Identification Card Program. Prepare correspondence concerning various resignation/retirement matters.
Maintain a database of all Service and Disability Retirements.
Research employee medical history file to prepare responses to letters for the Retirement System, law firms and insurance companies.
Liaison for the Retirement Systems disability units by monitoring the status of medical exams and pending disability cases.
Prepare letters for Involuntary Leave, Return to full and strenuous duty, Pre-Term and Termination.
Prepare and maintain confidential and sensitive personnel information.
Prepare correspondence to various outside agencies concerning disability benefits for member and civilian employees as directed by the HR Specialist 2 – Benefits Administration Unit.
Responsible for administering the Tuition Reimbursement, Degree pay, and Perkins Loan Forgiveness for member and civilian employees. Prepare correspondence relating to these matters.
Will assume other administrative tasks as assigned by the HR Specialist 2 – Benefits Administration Unit.
