About Our Agency The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of: intellectual disability and related disabilitiesautism spectrum disordertraumatic brain injuryspinal cord injury and similar disabilityAbout Midlands Regional Center Midlands Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Under general supervision of the Consumer Support Coordinator, plan, organize, and control the activities of a complex, multifaceted health information service (medical records department) of DDSN residential community meeting all legal requirements.Ensures a quality record system. Maintains complete medical history files. Assists records personnel in necessary steps to maintain timely purging of all residential records and filing of all purged materials in the CRD within a limited time. Ensures all records are in compliance with all existing state and federal guidelines and prepares inactive records for preservation and destruction.Directs Census Tracking procedure for all residential units and community homes. Ensures that census is recorded and entered in the census system application on a daily basis. Ensures that updated census sheets are created for accurate recording of daily accountability.Maintains total responsibility of STS (Service Tracking System) to include statistical data and reports from STS, census system and major problem/prognosis list database.Responsible for providing access to all required employees as needed to perform job responsibilities using the Java enterprise Directory interface (JEDI) system on the SCDDSN application portal. This will also include terminating access to staff once they leave from the agency.Supervises release of information to the requester maintaining HIPPA compliance. Ensures that all Release of Information forms are filled out correctly and are valid. Keeps abreast of changes in relevant legal requirements.Responsible for following all agency policies and procedures and may be required to perform and/or participate in outcome activities.Completes other duties as assigned.The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs offers an exceptional benefits package for FTE positions that includes: 15 days annual (vacation) leave accrual per year15 days sick leave per year13 paid holidaysPaid Parental LeaveHealth, Dental, Vision, Long Term Disability, and Life InsuranceState Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Program
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.Agency Additional Requirements: High School diploma and work experience directly related to records management. A bachelor's Degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
