Summary

This position supports the work of licensed clinicians by obtaining vital signs, administering medications and injections, recording information in electronic medical records, preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies, collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing, and providing guidance to other Medical Assistants.

Essential Functions

Cross-trains in at least one other area of health center operations and assists in the training of new medical assistants.
Monitors clinic flow, oversees tasks, and resolves problems.
Obtains patients' vital signs and records all information in electronic medical records.
Prepares and administers medications and injections under the direction of licensed clinicians.
Collects and documents patients' medical information, including medical history.
Collects and prepares specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing.
Preps exam rooms for clinical procedures and assists clinicians with patient care.
Prepares and handles medical instruments and supplies.
Maintains workspaces such as cleaning and stocking exam rooms.
Schedules patient appointments and maintains communication to confirm future appointments.
Verifies & cancels prescriptions at the pharmacy.
Scans and faxes documents.
Works directly with a licensed medical clinician and/or licensed psychiatric clinician to ensure optimal patient care.

On-time completion of assigned training and policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED
Medical Assistant certification.
CPR/First Aid & AED certified.
At least 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant using electronic medical records.
Basic user of MS Office.
Be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience; possesses a valid California driver's license; and has no Class 1 or more than two Class 2 violations within the past 36 months (only applies to those involved with the street health program)
Participate in an annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be granted where appropriate.
