Responsibilities

  • Smile and greet patient by name.
  • Treat patients with respect, compassion, and dignity.
  • Escort patient to exam room and offer instructions to prepare for exam and/or X-Rays.
  • Obtain patient history, including: weight, height, blood pressure, current medications, drug allergies, past surgeries, past medical history, mechanism of current injury and other issues as instructed by the Physician.
  • Assist Physician in exam and treatment, including: minor surgeries, suture and staple removal and obtaining cultures and specimens.
  • Draw injections.
  • Schedule patients for offsite tests, lab work, scans, consultation appointments etc.
  • Clean exam room after each patient.
  • Stock each exam room and notify appropriate personnel regarding supply shortages.
  • Review phone messages and test results with Physician; call patient to advise of the results.
  • Record and document prescription refill telephone requests.
  • Document conversations regarding medical problems with patients, families, insurance companies and attorneys in patient’s chart with date, dialogue, and your signature.
  • Fax status slips and reports as necessary.
  • Establish rapport with major referral sources, including worker’s compensation carriers, regarding patient status.
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures at all times
  • Take inventory of medical supplies and advise appropriate individual of required items in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate genuine cooperation with all aspects of the SDOA injury and illness prevention program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and continuously practice safety while performing assigned duties.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • Education and experience equivalent to certificate in medical office assisting.
  • Two years clinical experience in an out-patient setting, preferred.
  • CPR certified or obtained within 30-days of employment.
  • Knowledge of medications and medical supplies/equipment, preferred.
  • Familiar with medical terminology, coding, and worker’s compensation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
