St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is Hiring a School Nurse Near St. Louis, MO

School Overview

St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is a new, innovative charter public school that will open in fall 2022 to serve students and families within the boundaries of St. Louis City. The school will start with kindergarten through first grade and add a grade each year, growing to kindergarten through fifth grade. St. Louis Voices Academy is a public charter school that leverages media arts and storytelling to equip students with the agency to excel academically, author their own futures, and make meaningful contributions in their communities. St. Louis Voices Academy is committed to media and storytelling, whole-child development, real-world inquiry, and progressive learner autonomy as design elements that allow the school to fulfill its mission.

Role Overview

The physical health of our students is important to our students’ success. The nurse will address health problems that students experience in the school day. In conjunction with local healthcare providers, the nurse will also provide preventive and screening services, health education, and assistance with decision-making about health, and immunization against preventable diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the health needs of the entire school community by developing and implementing health plans
  • Provides confidential health advice and proper care for children with special cases and disabilities
  • Supports, advises, counsels, and refers children with mental health care problems to experts and promotes good parenting skills by teaching parents health programs
  • Gives advice to parents, caregivers, and school faculty and staff on how to deal with illnesses and control of infectious diseases
  • Implements immunization programs
  • Provides school-based sessions on personal, social, and health care education
  • Assists teachers in dealing with children who have special healthcare needs such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and epilepsy
  • Perform all duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Passion and commitment to the mission of St. Louis Voices Academy
  • Has Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Must be able to respond well in emergency medical situations
  • Knowledge of many areas of health, including mental health
  • Knowledge of school laws and policies related to health
  • Knowledge of state health regulations
  • Experience monitoring student immunization records
  • Ability to work independently or with others
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly
  • Thrives in a very collaborative environment
  • Humility, strong work ethic, and ‘roll up my sleeves’ attitude
