St. Louis Science Center is Hiring a Manager, YES Program Near St. Louis, MO

Description

This position will provide teens in the Youth Exploring Science (YES) program with inquiry-based learning experiences in an informal educational setting, with an emphasis on "STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)" Youth Development in various components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Component)

  • Develop the training module for incoming students to teach elementary groups during the summer session.
  • Develop the curriculum including projects and lesson plans for the student to undertake each Saturday beginning in the fall session.
  • Oversee and coordinate the program’s outreach and volunteer staff in addition to the progress of each student employee within the assigned component.
  • Participate in the development of new programs for these areas, as a member of project teams, as well as other forms of educational delivery and programmatic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Youth Development)

  • Develop the training module for incoming SLSC staff to become ready to lead their own science component working effectively with teens/youth.
  • Foster an environment that focuses on idea creation and shared success in YES.
  • Develop professional development sessions for YES staff and teens on youth development and diversity topics such as teen brain development, healthy relationships, drugs, culture, gender equity, etc.).
  • Performs needs analysis; reviews resources to ensure that learning and development tools exist and support the learning needs for projected competencies, as well as near- and long-term goals of YES program.
  • Plan, manage, deliver and evaluate professional development and compliance training for all SLSC employees as appropriate to the performance of their assigned duties in relation to working with teens.
  • Creates opportunities designed to demonstrate and foster cultural awareness, respect, and sensitivity for others. This includes understanding of physical disabilities, learning disabilities, understanding a diverse academic, socioeconomic, and culturally diverse environment.

OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Serve as YES spokesperson that attends meetings/donor events alongside Institutional Advancement (I.A.) team and Senior Director of Community Science.
  • Conduct initial orientation for new recruits to YES program and serve as their mentor.
  • Prepare and teach workshops that provide formal/informal learning activities that comply with GLE and Common Core standards.
  • Provided input for and participate in ongoing professional development sessions.
  • Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the YES program by attending staff meetings, and training sessions that encourage teamwork and professional growth. 
  • Deliver formal and/or educational experiences on or off-site.
  • Present College and Career readiness experiences, including study skills development, career exploration, and college and financial aid applications.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Two or more years teaching in an informal or formal setting.
  • Curriculum development experience a plus.

EDUCATION:

Minimum of 2 years of undergraduate study in Education is required; subject matter expertise and two-three years relevant experience may be substituted for education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Must have diplomacy.
  • Must have strong communication skills, patience, and energy.
  • Ability to interact well with people of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, flexible, creative, professional, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings and/or holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to set up classroom equipment and materials.

Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

Must be able to traverse the facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

Certain activities may require close vision.
