Description

St. John’s School is seeking a talented and knowledgeable Director of Technology. The Director of Technology oversees the development, implementation, and support of the comprehensive information technology infrastructure and network security for the School. This position demands strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, a high level of initiative, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of constituents. The director serves on the School’s senior leadership team and reports to the Associate Head of School. In addition to relevant experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates must demonstrate a collaborative approach and a commitment to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Team Management: Supervise the IT department, including a network administrator, database administrators, and desktop support specialists.
  • Cybersecurity: Oversee implementation and management of security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and data encryption.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement a disaster recovery plan to safeguard critical data and systems.
  • Asset Tracking: Oversee systems for tracking hardware and software assets throughout their lifecycle.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage the IT budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
  • Technology Strategy: Develop and implement long-term technology strategies that align with school goals.
  • Network Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the school’s network infrastructure.
  • Hardware Procurement: Decide on the hardware needs of the school and oversee its procurement and setup.
  • Software Selection: Choose appropriate software solutions for departmental needs and ensure timely updates.
  • Vendor Relations: Manage contracts and relationships with tech vendors and service providers.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure all technology operations and procedures comply with industry standards and legal regulations.
  • Instructional Technology: Coordinate with divisional instructional technologists and division heads to ensure a vertically aligned K-12 program for instruction on the use of hardware, software, online behavior, and cyber-safety.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a school IT department or department in a technology-related field
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute initatives
  • Knowledge of:
    •  GSuite for Education platform 
    • Enterprise Firewall, Wireless and Network Switching Cisco products; Enterprise Backup, Replication and Disaster Recovery Arcserve products
    • Microsoft Active Directory; Microsoft Defender for Office 365; Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy; Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualization, and VMWare Virtualization also a plus.
  • A commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency in a community that celebrates and appreciates diversity.
