SPARC is Hiring a Job Coach Near Springfield, IL

Functions:
Help identify skills and interests of individuals supported and match them with volunteer work, or employment opportunities as well as to help them retain those opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Cultivate new leads and acquire additional opportunities for individuals supported by contacting prospective employers and conducting initial and follow meetings.
  • Work with employers to identify employment objectives and expected outcomes of individuals supported in the workplace.
  • Complete assessments for all individuals entering supported employment program.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of transition plans for individuals from the workcenter into the supported employment program.
  • Utilize interest and assessment information of individuals supported to identify appropriate candidates for potential employment opportunities.
  • Utilizes interest and assessment information to determine if there are any unmet community employment needs of individuals supported and reports findings to Agency management.
  • Work closely with managers and business owners in the community, maintaining a positive and effective relationship between them and the individuals supported.
  • Assists in the arrangement of transportation of individuals supported employed in the community by way of Access Springfield, Springfield Mass Transit, Transportation to Self-Sufficiency or other transportation resources.
  • Initially trains Employment Instructors in habilitation techniques, task analysis and supported employment procedures for community employment sites. Provides additional training to Employment Instructors on sites as needed.
  • Assists in the completion of necessary paperwork for new job sites that are developed.
  • Ensures that individuals are linked to appropriate services and those services are implemented according to the policies and procedures of Sparc; works closely with individual DHS/DORS counselors to coordinate job placement services.
  • Assists individuals supported in developing resumes and helps complete job applications.
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the appropriateness of employment placements.
  • Assists in the monitoring of the performance of individuals supported in community work sites.
  • Ensures safety and well-being of individuals supported.
  • Provides or obtains first aid and emergency health treatment, whenever required.
  • Collects weekly paperwork from Employment Instructors and tabulates monthly totals to be reviewed by the Program Manager.
  • Participates in team meetings and provides required input to appropriate parties regarding the individualized integrated service plan (IISP) for individuals supported.
  • Serves as liaison with other Sparc programs, external agencies, employer, co-workers, individual and program.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of records and reports as determined by Agency management, including billing sheets, monthly, and quarterly reports.

Skills Needed:
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent time management skills and have a proven ability to meet various deadlines.
  • Possess skills necessary to effectively document and communicate day to day happenings with individuals supported to appropriate parties.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, community, families and individuals served/supported.
  • Ability to work independently as the need may arise as well as demonstrate ability to exercise judgment that coincides with Sparc’s standards and philosophies while assisting individuals supported.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of an associate’s degree or, when allowed by Agency management, equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation in order to transport individuals served.
  • Ability to physically handle any special needs of individuals supported by Sparc, in order to assist program staff in emergencies, including the ability to lift and transfer individuals as needed.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements.
  • Attend all required/mandatory meetings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed/required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is mainly performed in SPARCenter and the within the community, i.e. individual’s homes, employers, etc.
  • Some work may expose employee to mild or moderately high noise levels.
  • The employee may be exposed to potentially dangerous machinery, work situations, various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, and to bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc. Safety and security procedures must be followed.
