SPARC is Hiring a Skills Trainer- Job Coach Near Springfield, IL

Functions:
Work in various community and agency settings coaching, teaching and mentoring individuals with varying levels of disabilities to access their community and become active, wage-earning members of the workforce. This includes providing ongoing support including, but not limited to the areas of employment counseling, employment preparation and employment training so that they may be successful in the workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals supported with employment training as determined by the service plan, including running employment goals, and learning job skills on the employment site. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Directly provides coaching, teaching and mentoring for persons supported in the development of personal independence, including actively teaching and promoting individual rights and self-advocacy. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Assist individuals supported to acquire and maintain respectful relationships with other staff and management in community employment settings by facilitating inclusion in community activities, use of natural supports, and social interaction. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Assists in the monitoring of the performance of individuals supported in community work sites and teaching, coaching and mentoring them on potential improvements to their work ethic and tasks. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Assist individuals supported in solving problems in the work environment as well as supporting them to address concerns he/she has with an employer or an employer has with an individual supported. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Assists individuals in accessing and using public and generic transportation and provides transportation as assigned. Assists individuals into and out of vehicles as needed, e.g. may require lifting an individual in or out of a vehicle. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Teaches and coaches individuals supported on personal care and dressing based on the needs of the individuals for their employment. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Directly responsible for the implementation of the PCP Implementation Strategies which includes but are not limited to participating in team meetings and providing required input to appropriate parties. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Responsible for the timely input, accuracy and maintenance of records and reports, including case files, statistical information, billing sheets, daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and mandatory documentation for funding sources which are necessary for effective program operation and evaluation.   • Serves as liaison with other Sparc programs, external agencies, employers, co-workers, individuals and programs and helps to maintain a professional demeanor and teamwork. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Maintains an environment that promotes the health, safety and well-being of persons supported within the workspace/environment. This also includes the provision of first aid and emergency health treatment whenever required. (Essential and Non-modifiable)

Skills Needed:
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent time management skills and have a proven ability to meet various deadlines.
  • Possess skills necessary to effectively document and communicate day to day happenings with individuals supported to appropriate parties.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, community, families and individuals served/supported.
  • Ability to work independently as the need may arise as well as demonstrate ability to exercise judgment that coincides with Sparc’s standards and philosophies while assisting individuals supported.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. Required
Other Requirements:
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation in order to transport individuals served.
  • Ability to physically handle any special needs of individuals supported by Sparc, in order to assist program staff in emergencies, including the ability to lift and transfer individuals as needed.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements.
  • Attend all required/mandatory meetings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed/required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is mainly performed at Sparc Work Center and at community employment sites.
  • Some work may expose employees to mild or moderately high noise levels.
  • The employee may be exposed to potentially dangerous machinery, work situations, various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, and to bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc. Safety and security procedures must be followed.
