Family Center Director
Introduction
South Hills Interfaith Movement’s (SHIM) mission is to mobilize community resources and implement sustainable programs that compassionately help neighbors meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency, and build community. SHIM provides food, clothing, financial aid, education, family support, and a host of other services to 8,000 people in need in Pittsburgh’s southern suburban neighborhoods. In response to the unique challenges faced by the local refugee and immigrant population, SHIM operates programming designed to support children and families in this demographic.
The South Hills Family Center is a place for parents to meet other parents, kids to learn and play, and families, including many refugee and immigrant families, to find the resources and support they need. The family center offers programs that encourage learning, parent support groups, home visiting, and information and referrals.
Job Summary:
The Site Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation and leadership of the South Hills Family Center including managing the family support program staff, and collaborating with funders, families, agencies and the County.

Essential Functions:

  • Direct family support staff; ensuring quality programming, responsive family support systems, and a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Assist in the development and management of the family support budget.
  • Serve as the lead for the physical Family Center facility.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and support to direct reports through regularly scheduled meetings and evaluation; provide onboarding and training.
  • Ensure the accurate input of information, data, case notes, etc. into client-based data systems; access and retrieve data as required; provide database training and ongoing technical assistance for SHIM users.
  • Measure output and outcome data and provide analysis of findings to determine needs and improve programs. Explore new strategic programming initiatives.
  • Manage formal partnerships with external partners, such the Dept. of Human Services; build relationships with new partners.
  • Contribute to overall program development through collaboration, networking, and linking with other agencies and family support centers.
  • Prepare reports as required by the agency, funding sources and collaborative partners.
  • Support fundraising and marketing efforts to grow the program resources.
  • Represent SHIM in coalitions and networks related to family support.
  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Director of Programs and/or Executive Director.

  • Commitment to SHIM's vision, mission, and program philosophies.
  • Ability to work as a team member, with energy, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated experience with direct service, family/child development, and community organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Understand and comply with the policy of a Mandated Reporter.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess initiative, productivity, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, basic computer software, and general digital literacy skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work evening and occasional weekend hours.
  • Reliable independent transportation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of related full-time experience (8 years if part-time experience). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (preferred study in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Human Development).
  • Two or more years of work experience in a related field working with families.
  • Experience with family support programming and trauma-informed practices preferred.
  • Supervision experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
Requirements:
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprint Clearance or Pennsylvania ACT153 Waiver 
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Clearance 
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance 
  • Mandated Reporter Training 
  • NSOR – National Sex Offender Registry
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
