We are seeking a Communications Manager to join our growing communications team. This communications professional will report to the Senior Communications Manager and be a part of the broader Corporate Affairs team. Location is flexible.

AT SONDER YOU WILL:

Play a key role driving brand awareness and engagement to support Sonder's business and employee engagement objectives, and play an active role in thinking through the evolution of the function as Sonder continues to grow. This position includes a range of external and internal communications responsibilities including strategizing and executing on B2C and B2B communications announcements/campaigns, media relations, digital storytelling and community management, and internal communications. A Communications Manager should be innovative, pragmatic and execution-focused, able to think rigorously and be creative in a fast-paced environment..

External communications

  • Support the Senior Communications Manager in planning and executing PR campaigns and announcements that reach consumer and business audiences, extending these stories across owned digital channels.
  • Build relationships with reporters, pitch stories, and monitor for opportunities for Sonder to be part of the news cycle or cultural conversation. Manage and direct incoming press inquiries, handling requests for interviews, statements, etc.
  • Oversee all reporter stays at Sonder properties, including both proactive and reactive requests.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop Sonder's blog content - help manage the content calendar and publish new blog posts.
  • Build and protect Sonder's reputation online with content planning and publishing, and digital community management, on key platforms.
  • Spearhead comms strategies for Sonder's local market launches, including drafting comms plans, writing blog posts, identifying media targets and conducting outreach.
  • Proactively develop and pursue consumer and business pitches, elevating Sonder as a top global hospitality brand.
  • Identify and pursue evergreen thought leadership opportunities for senior executives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders/departments to understand their communications needs and create synergies.

Internal communications

  • Play a key role in planning and executing company-wide meetings and presentations, including monthly company wide All Hands; including drafting the agenda, reaching out to speakers to coordinate segments, helping orchestrate the practice sessions and acting as a point person for any questions.
  • Help implement and manage Sonder's intranet, acting as the key project manager to ensure all information is up-to-date, critical news is being communicated effectively, and coordinating information sharing across teams and departments.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Minimum 4 years of communications experience - ideally in-house at a tech start-up, or hospitality or real estate firm. Must have a background in external PR. Internal comms and social media experience is a plus.
  • Track record of securing positive press spanning areas like consumer, business, tech, etc.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. Skilled at building relationships and influencing both externally and internally, across different stakeholder types and seniority levels.
  • Comfortable with flexible, ever-evolving responsibilities.
  • A strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail, who works well meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills are a must, as well as the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Energetic, collaborative, and eager to take on all varieties of assignments and get hands-on as part of a small, dynamic team.
  • Hunger for thinking creatively.
  • A passion for hospitality, real estate and technology.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Business or other relevant field.
