SMA Technologies is Hiring a Sr. Financial Analyst Near Houston, TX

Job Description

Job Description

Why We Need You - The Mission

SMA Technologies was founded in 1980 and exists to help customers produce better business outcomes. We provide software and services to automate IT processes. With a focus on Domain Expertise, Great Customer Care, and Reliability, our global operation has offices worldwide, and works with multiple channel partners and an international client base.

Reporting to our Director of FP&A, the Sr. Financial Analyst will support our corporate and departmental modeling and analysis requirements. This highly visible role will require frequent interaction and coordination with our C-suite and our investors. You will work with them on tracking and communicating KPI's through dashboards and reporting, as well as identifying and developing solutions to improve business processes and performance employing data-driven decisions. The Sr. Financial Analyst will also be a key contributor in budgeting and forecasting activities, including the production of the annual operating budget, monthly forecast updates, and monthly budget variance analysis. The Senior Financial Analyst will also support month-end close, perform ad-hoc analysis and assist with any M&A or Organic business case development.

Objectives - What You Will Accomplish:

In your first month, work cross-functionally to become familiar with SMA’s systems, processes, and policies:

  • Learn the SMA Company model and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) Tool [Pigment]
  • Learn SMAs bookings and ARR close and reporting systems, models and process
  • Support the month-end close processes including the analysis and reporting of financial results; ensuring key issues, risks, and business drivers are understood and highlighted
  • Become familiar with the systems and processes, financial reporting requirements and cadence
  • Develop collaborative relationships with key business partners and stakeholders
  • Provide data driven analytics and insights that help leadership uncover trends, opportunities, and risks that will inform future strategic and financial decision making

Within your first 3 months, become the subject matter expert in modeling and ARR and begin to practice business partnering skills:

  • Subject matter expert and owner of the SMA company model
  • Own and be an expert on traditional ARR-based business modeling and reporting including KPIs, bookings, ARR, renewals and all the elements of the recurring revenue model, and key levers to ARR growth
  • Key contributor to the build out of our CPM
  • Learn the BVA and business partnership process
  • Begin to take the lead on delivering key financial reports and ad hoc requests
  • Communicate and display complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and present findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Investigate and master new data sets to identify and develop solutions to improve business processes and reporting

Within your first 6 months, contribute significantly to key projects in the Finance cycle and become a strong business partner:

  • Contribute to key budget, forecast and reporting initiatives
  • Co-own our CPM
  • Become a strategic business partner to one or two functional leaders
  • Partner with Director of Finance to develop Product P&Ls
  • Think like an entrepreneur, striving to improve all aspects of our business and processes and to be an industry leader in innovating the finance profession forward

Competencies - What We're Looking for:

Technical Chops: You have a proven track record and thorough understanding of the SaaS/software subscription revenue business model. You have experience working with senior leadership and meeting the needs of investors (PE-sponsors, lenders, etc.). You are comfortable getting deep “in the weeds” on key pieces of financial planning & analysis and are proficient in reporting, financial modeling, forecasting, and business analysis. You can drive a budget process initiative and complete it on time. You understand GAAP and have experience with P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow analysis, including Software Revenue Recognition principles (ASC 606). You are familiar with CRM and ERP tools, and possess an extremely high degree of proficiency with MS Office products including Excel (macros, index, conditional list, arrays, pivots and lookups), PowerPoint. CPM experience is a plus but not required.

Comfort with Ambiguity: At times, this role will be responsible for taking nebulous ideas and translating them into specific concrete actions. You are a detail-oriented self-starter capable of operating autonomously and driving projects with high performance amidst ambiguity. Your work will rarely be paint-by-number so you should be comfortable taking nebulous direction, translating that direction into a plan, and enlisting those you need to get the job done. As such, you will have examples of times when you took a poorly formed idea, sharpened it and owned its execution from start-to-finish.

Get it Done / Accountable: It bothers you when people do not follow through on their commitments. You regularly demonstrate the ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize workload and achieve effective results. You can tell us about times when you have rolled up your sleeves, taken ownership of a body of work and delivered the results on-time and with minimal support.

Strong process engineer: You enjoy triage and troubleshooting of operational issues and projects to optimize infrastructure/systems/processes for scale. You are capable of spearheading and managing continuous process improvement across all areas of the business to scale with growth. You can give us examples of when you have laid out a step-by-step plan for how to automate or improve a process. The best candidate will be able to tell us about how they have tweaked this process using feedback gathered from first-hand observation.

Influencing and relationship building: You know you cannot do it yourself. You have the communication skills and emotional intelligence to quickly establish credibility and gain the trust and respect of everyone in the organization. You must be able to balance asking the right questions with providing direction to ensure initiatives are successfully implemented. You can convince people of “why” and “how” on following a process.

Collaborative, Humble, and Fun: We want you to be a person we enjoy collaborating with, spending time with and investing in. You may be this person if you already invest heavily in those you work with and consistently receive the feedback that you are a great colleague and teammate. A great sign is if people go out of their way to work with you, no matter the situation.

Adaptability & Flexibility: You respond with excitement to changing business needs and embrace using new practices to accomplish goals and solve problems. You are great at balancing ongoing demands of change and recover quickly from setbacks by finding alternative ways to reach goals.

Attention to Detail: You are diligent in attending to details and pursue quality in all tasks you execute. You are always reviewing your work for accuracy and ensuring it aligns with what is expected.

What’s in it for you?

At SMA, we pride ourselves on ensuring that our employees are taken care of and that you have what you need to succeed in and out of work. In addition to competitive compensation, we provide:

  • A remote first environment - work anywhere you'd like in the 48 contiguous U.S.
  • All the gear you need to be successful: Mac or Dell Laptop, $100/month phone internet reimbursement, monitors, and gear to get yourself started plus a one-time $250 stipend to purchase any extras.
  • 100% Company paid health, dental, vision, LTD, AD&D, and basic life insurance for you and your immediate family, $1,800/yr company funded HSA account, and paid parental leave.
  • Flexible PTO and flexible working hours to accommodate a great work/life balance.
  • Wellness day quarterly to relax and recharge throughout the year.
  • $2,500 annual Professional Development stipend to help you develop your skills.
