Position Summary:
Simmons University is seeking a Budget and Financial Analyst who will be responsible for a broad range of financial analysis and planning, supporting the financial management of the University. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Planning, Budget and Financial Analysis, the Budget and Financial Analyst provides key financial modeling, data analysis, and other decision support capabilities to meet the University's financial objectives.
Simmons is a dynamic University with a total enrollment of more than 4,500 students - programs are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels both in person and online. The University has numerous administrative and financial initiatives that provide an opportunity for deep financial analysis in support of management's goals, including the One Simmons initiative which involves significant re-investment in facilities including the planned construction of a Living and Learning Center consisting of 1,100 residential beds, a dining facility and athletics complex.
The Budget and Financial Analyst will play a key role in supporting the Director and the Chief Financial Officer with insightful financial analysis, financial projections, and recommended actions. This role is a great opportunity for an individual who is seeking experience working with and supporting senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
Essential Functions:
Research and synthesize large amounts of data; identify trends, draw conclusions, develop solutions, present and implement recommendations, and create follow up analysis;
Help to develop budget and forecasting scenarios that focus on the major budget parameters such as enrollment, student aid, benefits, and wage increases;
Perform statistical and comparative analyses of the above categories;
Assist with the preparation of regular budget and financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and the Finance Committee;
Assist with special projects such as program analysis, compensation trends, benefits scenarios, etc.
Play role in annual budget process preparing packages for various Business Units for budget development, meeting with budget managers, and summarizing budget requests;
Examine budget estimates for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with procedures and regulations;
Collaborate with University business partners to offer advice and technical assistance with cost analysis and budget preparation and planning;
Work with department managers to monitor spending against budget targets;
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum 3-4 years of related professional experience with budget forecasting, planning and analysis including developing budget to actuals and variance analysis
Advanced Microsoft Excel user
Experience with Workday Adaptive, Adaptive, and Tableau is a plus
Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills; especially with financial projections and forecasting
Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities and and manage multiple assignments concurrently
Strong professional communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and non-financial management
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
