Sempra LNG is Hiring a Commodity Analyst II Near Houston, TX
Primary Purpose Responsible for the settlement of, physical and financial, natural gas commodity transactions. Responsibilities consist of validating & confirming energy transactions within the trade capture system, along with preparing related Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable billing statements. Performs management & regulatory reporting, develops standard operating procedures for related tasks, and provides support for credit and/or market risk analysis roles. Duties and Responsibilities
Performs commodity settlement process, including validation of settled transactions, counterparty checkout, preparing payable & receivable invoices, and facilitating payment requests. This includes communication with counterparties to confirm trade details and resolve discrepancies with Front Office, Mid-Office, and Business Apps.
Reconciles monthly energy transactions through validation & confirmation of volumes, trade pricing and supporting calculations.
Supports monthly close process with appropriate reporting, analysis, journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations.
Supports monthly/quarterly/annual regulatory reporting requirements to ensure compliance with various governing agencies (i.e., DOE, EIA, EPA, & FERC). This includes support of the SOX compliance and audit requirements.
Supports the credit and market risk functions, completes ad hoc reporting requests and may be responsible for the completion of moderately complex assignments/projects in support of the commodity settlement process (ex. Gathers and summarizes settlement data by pipeline for the past two years, including bilateral and pipeline settlements) and/or commodity risk management processes.
Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or equivalent training and/or experience.
3 years’ experience in professional commodity settlement or equivalent training and/or experience.
1 of prior professional level energy commodity settlement experience.
Strong spreadsheet/database skills required.
Strong attention to detail
Strong analytical, verbal, and written communications skills
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to work independently with little guidance from management.
Must be able to work in team environment and effectively interact with others both internal & external customers.
Able to work with large amounts of data, with technical skills to summarize, confirm, and reconcile its accuracy.
Ability to convey technical information in a clear and concise manner.
A willingness to put forth additional effort and work extra hours when critical projects arise or as necessary.
Ability to multi-tasks and be flexible and able to switch quickly from one project to another when dictate by business need.
Proficient with the use of OpenLink Endur Energy Trade and Risk Management (ETRM) software.
