SEIU Local 1 has been on the cutting edge of building power for low-wage workers in service industries and fighting in larger struggles for social justice on issues such as health care, immigration reform, and racial justice. We are now seeking a Data Specialist to work in our Chicago office. Currently the position is remote.
Data Specialists transfer information from paper and electronic files into electronic data systems. They oversee the entire conversion process, working closely with others to ensure the data is accurate and accessible. A Data Specialist must research data sources to verify validity of information and are also responsible for working in and updating database programs and training others in the use of data those database programs and software applications.
Data Specialists must have strong analytical, problem solving and verbal and written communication skills. They should be detail-oriented individuals who can consistently meet deadlines and work well within a team environment. Strong planning, organizational and critical thinking skills are also beneficial for those working in this field. A Data Specialist should be familiar with project management processes such as budgeting and scheduling.
Analyze and Verify Data:
Data Specialists begin a data conversion process by conducting a thorough data analysis of information. They research data sources and make any corrections to existing data as needed to ensure accuracy of the information being recorded.
Create a Digital Conversion Process:
A Data Specialist often analyzes existing data and processes and creates an approach suitable for data. In some cases, a Data Specialist may design a new approach or process to convert data.
Generate Reports:
Data Specialists must consistently provide reports regarding the progress of data conversion to others. They must present reports covering workflow and workflow disruptions, exceptions, costs and analysis results.
Provide Technical Support and Assistance:
Once a conversion project is complete, a Data Specialist may train others in the use of the process or approach to data. Data Specialists also maintain data and answer questions users might have regarding the data and processes.
