The Seattle Teacher Residency (STR) is an innovative teacher preparation program that offers aspiring teachers a route to teaching that includes the training necessary to become exceptional educators in Seattle Public Schools. Through a strategic combination of clinical classroom experience in Title 1 SPS elementary schools, an intensive apprenticeship with skilled SPS Mentor Teachers, and master's level coursework at the University of Washington’s College of Education, teacher candidates will earn a Master's in Teaching from the UW College of Education. All STR Residents participate in a yearlong practicum experience in an SPS high-needs school with an (trained and supported) experienced SPS Mentor Teacher. Position Summary
Alliance for Education is seeking to hire someone to join our team as a Program Coordinator in our Seattle Teacher Residency Program who is dedicated to equity in education. The Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in coordinating and overseeing key aspects of the program, ensuring effective systems to support the success of our residents.
This position collaboratively works with the STR team, stakeholders from across the partnership, and operates under the direct supervision of the STR Director. The primary responsibilities include driving ongoing program implementation and improvement while maximizing program impact. This position includes managing three key aspects of the residency:
  • Tracking and updating of resident and graduate data, including placement and retention: maintain data on resident progress and review and update graduate information.
  • Scheduling, logistics and registration for graduate programming, supporting program team to ensure program schedule is set and confirmed and that residents receive necessary information.
  • Supplemental support to residents when needed - Collaborate with program leadership to support residents in their field teaching experience as well as in coursework and serves as a knowledgeable resource person to residents.
Responsibilities and Duties
Tracking program, resident, and graduate data
  • Create and maintain resident tracking system for monitoring resident progress.
  • Work with STR team to organize and maintain system for filing resources in Google Drive or designated system.
  • Discuss and analyze resident progress based on the practicum expectations, making recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Manage tracking of substitute requests and resident calendar.
  • Fulfill catering orders, room reservations, and material purchases.
  • Assist in processing student funding requests.
Program Implementation Coordination
  • Coordinate with university partners to confirm course sequence, time schedule, and room locations.
  • Create and maintain yearly course sequence and assist in analysis of coursework aligned to state and local standards.
  • Support STR team in building and cultivating school building partners within Seattle Public Schools.
Program Participation
  • Attend reflective seminars with Manager of Clinical Practice and Manager of Curriculum and Induction and participate as needed.
  • Collaborate with STR team to manage, evaluate and monitor resident progress.
  • Collect and track data about resident and mentor strengths and needs; provide support when needed and appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding and actualizing antiracism, equity, and inclusion.
  • Access to reliable transportation is a required aspect for frequent travel to and from schools across the city of Seattle.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in urban public schools preferred, with a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges within that dynamic environment.

The Alliance for Education is affiliated with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Staff members of the Alliance for Education employees are officially employees of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and participate in Chamber benefit plans, but do not report to Chamber staff. The Chamber and Alliance for Education is committed to internal and market equity. The pay range for this position is $26.70-$38.71, with an anticipated hiring range of $26.70-$32.70 based on experience.
