Hourly rate: $24.00 per hour 

FLSA: Non-exempt / Non-union represented 

This position allows for up to 4 days of remote work per week. 

About the Office

The Office of Human Resources (HR) provides the full range of human resource services to the State Bar. Its primary functions include personnel policy administration, recruitment and retention, engagement programs and applications, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and non-discrimination policy administration, classification and compensation analysis, benefits administration, and labor relations. HR also includes a Talent Engagement & Development Unit (TED), which offers programs on a wide range of topics to foster the professional development of Bar staff.

Position Summary

The Office of HR is looking to recruit up to two (2) college or graduate students, one to work in the Los Angeles office, and one to work in the San Francisco office. The HR intern will be available to work full-time for 10 weeks from mid-June through August 2024.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interest in Human Resources (Talen Development, Employee Engagement, HR Information System, HR Data Analytics, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Employee Relations, Benefits Management, Labor Relations, Talent Acquisition, and Leaves and accommodations).
  • Innate curiosity that drives their approach to work.
  • Takes initiative to plan and complete tasks associated with assignments or projects.
  • Commitment to the State Bar’s values of clarity, excellence, respect, and a growth mindset.
  • Candidate must reside in California and be able to report to the office at least once per week.

Letter of Interest (Required) 

In addition to completing the State Bar application, attach your resume and include a letter of interest. The letter of interest should provide information about why you are interested in the role, and highlight the knowledge, skills, and abilities that you bring to the role. The letter of interest should be limited to one page. 

Definition 

Under the general supervision of HR managers and analysts, works on a variety of day-to-day HR assignments and special projects. 

Examples of Essential Duties

Supporting the Recruitment and Retention function, the intern will collaboratively work with team members to enhance how we approach talent development and employee engagement in a remote/hybrid environment. Including special projects, core tasks may include:

  • Management of the learning management system (LMS) (setting up courses, monitoring enrollment and registration, analyzing and reporting participation trends, etc.)
  • Assisting with program set-up and design
  • Supporting organizational communication
  • Administrative support
  • Support with program facilitation, if desired
  • Research on employee engagement, and belonging and inclusion 

Supporting other HR functions, core tasks may include:

  • Providing administrative support to the HR Operations, Benefits, and Employee & Labor Relations, including setting up employee files, timely inputting employee data into the HRIS system, and preparing and processing correspondence and forms relevant to HR functions.
  • Assisting with conducting special studies and investigations, performing preliminary research, collecting and analyzing information and data, coordinating and managing the preparation of memoranda, reports, or other documents for review.
