samsara is Hiring a Remote Director, Product Management - Connected Equipment

About the role:

Samsara’s Smart Trailer and Connected Equipment business is our newest and fastest growing product line generating over $100M in ARR. The STCE business helps customers improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability across a breadth of assets - from unpowered equipment to generators to trailers and more. We’re looking for a Director of Product Management to lead our Connected Equipment team to solve important and impactful problems for our customers by bringing new products to life.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a Team: Develop and grow an excellent Product Management team with a passion for shipping terrific products to our customers.
  • Be Entrepreneurial: Help identify meaningful problems to solve, drive the business case for those products, then go execute and solve those problems.
  • Be an Owner and Ship Products: Figure out the right product to build and partner with engineering to figure out the right way to build it. Drive product roadmaps and product specifications, navigate the tradeoffs between performance, quality, complexity, time to market, and ship. Define clear metrics to track and refine our customer experience.
  • Develop Internal Relationships: Partner with Design, Software, Firmware, Hardware, and Go to Market teams to help solve our customers problems. Partner with Sales to help close strategic accounts.
  • Develop External Relationships: Partner with our customers to run feedback loops and ensure we’re building the right products. Collaborate with industry partners to ensure we’re shipping the best customer experience possible.
  • Research: Stay abreast of the latest technology and industry trends. Be curious and think about how to leverage those trends for our customers.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Strong technical understanding, ability to grasp technical concepts and establish credibility with engineers.
  • Bias for action and hands-on experience delivering business results. You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty writing a spec or jumping on a customer call, but can also mentor others to do the same.
  • Demonstrated experience setting strategy for complex technical areas, and using data to make investment decisions and measure progress towards business outcomes.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and leading people as a direct manager.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be comfortable presenting to customers and internal audiences, including senior executives.
  • Ability to drive teams of diverse backgrounds to ship features on tight timelines.
  • Successful track record of 10 years relevant experience in product management/development.
  • Experience building a team of product managers and hands-on technical leadership.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • MBA or related advanced technical degree
  • Experience navigating early stage and later stage product development
  • Entrepreneurial background/track record
  • Familiarity with B2B SaaS products and working with B2B sales teams.
