The Assistant Director of Advising & Transfer Services works collaboratively with the Director of Advising & Transfer Services to provide coordination of academic advising. The Assistant Director aids in the onboarding or students, identifying plans to accomplish students' educational goals, and increasing retention and completion rates. The Assistant Director works to ensures that policies and procedures effectively deliver comprehensive services to advance enrollment, retention, and graduation rates. The Assistant Director will be the office manager in the Director's absence.

Essential Duties:

Together with the Director of Advising & Transfer Services, develop and coordinate co-curricular programming and outreach efforts for all student cohorts, including first-year, incoming transfer, and continuing student populations.

Collaboratively engage with others in the department and throughout the college to develop and coordinate student retention strategies for all student cohorts, including first-year, incoming transfer, and continuing student populations.

Develop day-to-day and drop-in advising schedules for all full-time and part-time onboarding, advising, and transfer employees.

In the absence of the Director of Advising & Transfer Services, supervise the staff, programs, budget, and services of Advising.

In collaboration with the department coordinator, monitor and update the internal webpage for Advising and Transfers Services in SharePoint to ensure accuracy.

Oversee technology used to support advising and transfer services.

Work collaboratively across all college departments and divisions to support the College's strategic goals, including ensuring all students have an academic and career plan.

Assess and coordinate professional development opportunities to keep the staff current with local and national academic advising standards.

Maintain accurate and current knowledge of RVCC degree and certificate programs of study, academic policies and operations, and College rules and procedures while maintaining security of student records and correspondence with appropriately strict confidentiality.

Collect data and assess outcomes of outreach, advising, and retention activities to determine effectiveness; and adapt as needed.

Serve as backup for advisors; advising students on academic planning, course selection, choice of major, academic standards, educational strategies, transfer & career information, and other areas as needed.

Serve on college committees as needed.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Advising & Transfer Services.


Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in student personnel, counseling, or related degree.

Minimum of five years of experience in student services including three years working in a college academic advising and/or counseling office.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present to large groups. High degree of reliability and flexibility; ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.

Strong commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in student personnel, counseling, or related degree.

Experience in the administration of campus programs.

Demonstrated commitment to the Community College mission.

Prior experience with working with Guided Pathways.

Demonstrated knowledge of common higher education applications including Banner, EduNav, SalesForce, TargetX, presentation software and Microsoft Office applications.


Additional Information:


Office Hours:

Monday from 8:30-6:00pm and Tuesday - Friday 8:30-5:00pm with additional hours during peak times. Ability to work at least one night until 6:00pm.
