General Statement

The Assistant Comptroller is responsible for managing the day-to-day activity of fiscal operations of the college and supervisor of accounting staff. This includes maintaining, updating, and reconciling the general ledger, supervising accounting transactions and staff, complying with fiscal policies and procedures, assist comptroller in coordinating documents for the annual audit and assisting in other financial reporting.

Supervision Received

Reports directly to the Comptroller.

Supervision Exercised

Supervises and evaluates Accountants as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as internal consultant and trainer for finance staff.
  • Reviews and approves accounting transactions.
  • Monitor the reconciliation of all funds and accounts within the general ledger.
  • Ensure that all bank reconciliations, including State Treasury accounts, are performed and reviewed monthly.
  • Oversees disbursement of all Financial Aid funds to students, reviews transactions and approves journal entries. Responsible for oversight of federal drawdowns and the review of monthly financial aid reconciliations.
  • Assists in maintaining, research and updating of fiscal policies, internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Assists in the preparation of fiscal reports for internal or external constituents.
  • Assists in the annual independent audit of the College including the preparation of year-end accounting entries, reconciliations, and schedules.
  • Assist the Comptroller in financial reporting and financial oversight for the Quinsigamond Community College Foundation.
  • Supervise and evaluate accounting staff as assigned.
  • Management of multiple assessments simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, takes initiative, and accustomed to meeting deadlines.
  • Supports the teaching and learning process; works to create and support a student-centered environment.
  • Works with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork.

  • Provides flexible, responsive and high quality customer service to all whom we serve, be it students, community or staff and continuously assesses processes and procedures to revise accordingly.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of five years related experience in Accounting or related field.
  • (3) Three years' supervisory experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Excellent skills to be well organized, flexible and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal direct supervision and a focus for content detail and visual presentation.

  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Accounting
  • Experience in Higher Education financial operations
  • Experience with integrated systems.
  • Experience with system report writers.
