How You Will Contribute

The Director of Events and Dining leads the museum’s visitor dining services, hospitality, and facility rental businesses as the key liaison with the museum’s food and beverage provider. This individual plays a crucial role in ensuring the food and beverage experience compliments and adds value to the full museum experience for visitors and event attendees. The Director ensures that the museum standards for visitor dining, hospitality and events are clearly defined, communicated, and evaluated for consistent and high-level execution and thus perpetuates a lasting collaboration with the food and beverage provider.

Specifically, you will:

  • Provides guidance and insight to the food and beverage provider as to the quality of food, service and cleanliness of visitor dining outlets, events, and programs.
  • Be the lead point of contact for all internal and external event inquiries and is responsible for negotiating and creating the terms of the event agreements between the client and the museum. Responsible for meeting projected earned revenue goals from events and visitor dining annually.
  • Oversee the decision process for space management of the museum’s event locations working closely with the museum department heads and the food and beverage provider to ensure the museum’s internal and public programming needs receive priority and are undiminished.
  • Establish clear event criteria, policies and operational procedures and decision framework for exceptions in conjunction with the food and beverage provider to achieve optimal space utilization and revenues.
  • Develop and implement an annual Marketing Plan and budget for all visitor dining and events businesses in collaboration with food and beverage provider and key stakeholders within the museum.
  • Work with a cross departmental team to manage facilities use in meeting museum standards and expectations to protect and care for the building and natural environment, safety, maintenance and sanitation for all food and beverage service and support areas.
  • Ensure effective and clear communication to museum departments that support visitor dining and events including but not limited to audio-visual, security, housekeeping and janitorial, facility and operations, maintenance and repair, development, and visitor services with the goal of protecting the museum property, essential museum operations and consistent operational excellence and total visitor satisfaction.
  • In partnership with the Finance department, establish and monitor an effective system for the museum’s internal financial analysis of food and beverage provider’s services to reasonably ensure the food and beverage provider is meeting or exceeding revenue and earned income goals for the museum.
  • Ensure museum costs are monitored, and budget goals met and/or exceeded, provide monthly Executive Summary to museum leadership outlining results verses budget, correct actions, as required, and revised forecasts, and prepare and approve annual budgets in collaboration with team members as appropriate.
  • Regularly review daytime and evening dining services and regularly attend internal and external events, to assure that continuous excellent customer service, quality and a high level of effectiveness is maintained by food and beverage provider, museum team members and external contractors providing services.
  • Ensure the food and beverage provider and the museum is compliant with all local, state, and federal governmental laws, regulatory requirements, licenses and permits related to their services and operations.

Your background and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), with specialization in business, hospitality and/or food services management preferred.
  • Several years demonstrated successful experience in food services and/or hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in selling and execution of weddings and events.
  • Understanding of and passion for the culinary and hospitality industry and providing an excellent guest experience.
  • Proven knowledge of retail restaurants, public dining, food and beverage catering of all types, facility rental and event management services, operational policies, vendor management, vendor contracts, and budgeting and financial management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent skills with spreadsheet analysis and Microsoft Office software suite.

Position and Compensation Details

  • The salary range for this position is $110,000-125,000.
  • This position is Full-Time, Exempt and 35 hours per week.
  • This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
