Summary:

The position of Engineering Lead demands a highly technical, motivated, team leader who is both ready to engage and drive projects forward as well as dive in and help the team solve technical problems. This position balances both technical leadership and people leadership. You will lead a team of experienced software engineers and guide projects to completion on time and on budget.

Duties & Responsibilities:

May include “levelers” (e.g., routine, moderately complex, highly complex)

• Shapes the vision of Petco’s cross-cloud ecosystem for next 3-5 yrs
• Responsible for leading a team of software engineers/managers with various functional skill sets
• Planning, designing, and developing cloud-based applications and the corresponding shared services to support the App development
• Managing non-prem environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining the tools that are leveraged in facilitating DevOps processes and automation.
• Responsible for establishing the next generation of reliability engineering center of excellence
• Establishes processes and procedures and develops tools that are used by both the development and infrastructure teams in both a development and operations capacity.
• Supports all of Petco IT by managing the source code management system, automating builds, automating regression testing, building tools used in software deployments, configuring monitoring, and providing mechanisms to push releases to all environments.
• Owns complex issues and leads team through to resolution. Works with executive leadership to inform IT strategy and possible synergies.
• Maintains vendor relationships / budgets
• Comfortable communicating with engineers and senior management.
• Able to develop Talent and succession plans

Key distinction of job level:

Leads the Infrastructure as code function and works across the technology organization

Type of supervision received:

Minimal oversight, responsible for creating and executing Cross-Cloud and automation practice

Type of supervision given:

Leads a team of software engineers and managers

Minimum qualifications:

• Typically requires a BS in Computer Science, Engineering or similar plus 8 years professional progressively responsible experience in function and 5 years’ experience in an architecture or leadership position.
• The role requires you to have expert level technical experience, big-picture problem solving skills, deep subject matter expertise in automation management and continuous improvement.
