Biolinq is Hiring a Director, Microsystems Engineering Near San Diego, CA

Description

Job Purpose

Biolinq is seeking a highly motivated, energetic leader that is an expert in semiconductor process technology with a drive to deliver results in a fast-paced innovative space. The candidate will join a close-knit and dynamic innovation team and will be responsible for the design, synthesis, and assessment of advanced semiconductor architectures supporting the Company’s core business. The candidate will also work alongside suppliers to translate promising designs to high-yield volume manufacturing. Location will be Biolinq’s corporate headquarters in San Diego.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hiring and leading a small team of engineers focused on the development of advanced microneedle architectures
  • Overseeing internal and external prototyping of microneedles for clinical applications using both novel and established processing techniques
  • Establishing relationships and working with foundry partners to refine processes to address cost and scalability requirements
  • Optimizing manufacturing pilot runs for maximal yield, minimal variation and ensuring timely delivery of parts
  • Translating new microneedle concepts to pilot and volume manufacturing while minimizing process variation
  • Implementing process control measures and defining protocols required to conform to established quality standards
  • Leading the relationships with microelectronic assembly / packaging firms 
  • Developing specifications & test methods to experimentally validate designs in a statistically significant manner
  • Identification and implementation of automated inspection methods for compliance assessment purposes
  • Implementing various statistical and sampling methods aimed at understanding and quantifying process variability
  • High level of involvement with potential to lead/co-lead ASIC development
  • Defining specifications, generating documentation, and establishing traceability measures based on regulatory requirements established by FDA, ISO, and various notified bodies

Requirements

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD (preferred) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent field
  • 15 years’ experience in process engineering as it pertains to semiconductor and MEMS manufacturing
  • Strong familiarity with MEMS processing tools 
  • Demonstrated success in translating designs to viable MEMS devices used in relevant operating environments
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing and cost/performance tradeoffs as applied to semiconductor fabrication
  • Familiarity with electrochemistry and electrochemical biosensors is a major plus
  • Ability to interface across scientific and engineering teams and work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate ideas clearly
  • Highly methodical and detail-oriented
  • Willingness to take the lead on the interaction with Biolinq’s foundry partners and translating design requirements established by the R&D team to viable manufacturing processes that are scalable, highly uniform, and cost-effective
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with ability to establish strong working relations with technical teams within the organization
  • Professional presence and demeanor coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent, self-motivated individual who holds the highest ethical standards coupled with the ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment and independently with minimal guidance

Working Conditions

Commensurate with general office and laboratory activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; manipulate office equipment, including a personal computer; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office and/or manufacturing environment. Employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 50 pounds.

As part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Biolinq supports pay transparency internally and during the recruitment process. The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this role is: $180,000 to $220,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including, but not limited to: skill set, depth of experience, education, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the job across the U.S. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans. Biolinq also offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick time, parental leave), medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans and any written agreement between the parties.
