Oceana is campaigning around the globe to protect and restore the world’s oceans.
Founded in 2001, Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation. In the face of many threats — from overfishing, habitat destruction, oil and plastic pollution, and the killing of threatened species like turtles, whales, and sharks, Oceana’s country-by-country approach is delivering globally significant impacts to protect the oceans and save the climate. A restored, healthy, and abundant ocean can help fight climate change, sustain livelihoods, and feed more than 1 billion people a healthy seafood meal every day, forever. That’s why Oceana is campaigning for science-based policies in countries that control one-quarter of the world’s wild fish catch. With more than 275 victories to date, Oceana’s campaigns are saving the oceans to help feed the world.
Oceana is now seeking an outstanding leader to drive the continued success of the organization throughout the world. Reporting to Oceana’s international Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for Oceana, ensuring it stays focused on goals that will achieve meaningful results for the oceans, guiding its external communications, securing the funds necessary to accomplish its mission, and maintaining Oceana’s financial integrity. Crucially, the CEO will be responsible for leading and supporting a strong, talented, motivated, and diverse staff around the world.
The ideal CEO will be a proven leader, with a track record of achieving measurable policy changes and significant social impact. They will demonstrate prior successes in fundraising, including the ability to network and build long-term relationships with funders. An excellent communicator, the CEO will be able to represent Oceana effectively with staff, communities, partners, and the media. Most importantly, the next CEO will bring a strong passion and commitment to Oceana’s mission and objectives, and the capacity to lead, mentor, and support global teams of incredibly driven and skilled individuals through a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
If you are passionate about leading Oceana to protect the world’s oceans and restore them to their former levels of abundance, we look forward to hearing from you.
