Position: HR Generalist

Location: Huntsville, Alabama

At Performance Drone Works (PDW), we’re at the forefront of creating custom small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) for the modern warfighter. PDW is proudly American-owned, with all design, engineering, and manufacturing of our products taking place domestically.

Position Overview

PDW seeks a skilled HR Generalist to join our team, contributing to the next wave of system and tool development for our upcoming product lines. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the rapid growth of PDW while ensuring we are both legally compliant and able to handle sustainable projected growth.

Core Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will thrive working in an innovative and fast-paced work environment, be able to deal with problems on the fly and deliver thoughtfully designed and highly adaptable systems.

  • Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to HR, including EEO/affirmative action mandates.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of payroll taxes, social security, and other government-mandated reports including multi-state registration filing.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with all employment laws, regulations, payroll procedures, and policies.
  • Provide recruitment solutions, take candidates from scheduling interviews and pre-employment screenings, and ensure all required paperwork is completed.
  • Produce regular reports detailing HR metrics such as turnover rates, recruitment efficiency, training outcomes, and others. Interpret and present these findings to the leadership team.
  • Design, implement, and oversee policies covering all areas of Human Resources. Regularly review and update these policies to reflect current compliance standards.
  • Leverage technology to increase effectiveness and create efficiency both within the team and across the organization.
  • Ensure that our compensation packages and benefits remain competitive and compliant with all regulations.
  • Ensure that all HR-related training programs, especially those related to compliance, are effectively administered, and attended.
  • Establish and maintain a compliant performance review process, ensuring unbiased feedback and evaluations.
  • Oversee the secure storage and accuracy of employee records, ensuring adherence to data protection standards. This includes responsibilities like maintaining I-9’s and E-Verify requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align HR strategies with business goals, ensuring that our growth is sustainable and compliant.
  • Designate consistent salary and position tiers and foster career-driven professional growth.
  • Promote and sustain PDW’s culture, ensuring that our values are reflected in every HR initiative and decision.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Deep understanding of HR practices in a startup environment.
  • Familiarity with fast-paced operational demands and an ability to pivot as needed.
  • Strong grasp of HR laws, especially as they pertain to startups and technology businesses.
  • Analytical mindset with the capability to make swift, informed decisions.
  • Capability to work autonomously till task fruition.
  • Excellent communication skills, suited for a dynamic and fluid environment.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 5 years in an HR role, preferably within a startup or high-growing setting.
  • Proficiency in utilizing tech-driven HR tools sustainable for startups.
  • Experience in crafting and implementing rapid-response HR strategies.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency in UKG integration and services.

Desired Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • PHR/SPHR certification is highly favorable.

ITAR Requirement

In compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders), or individuals granted asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
