Afognak Native Corporation is Hiring a Human Resources Specialist Near Huntsville, AL

The Human Resource (HR) Specialist will provide administrative support to the Human Resource Department, managers, and employees. Plays a key role in the full onboarding experience and processing personnel data changes.

  • Prepares offer letters for candidates and internal job changes.
  • Coordinates background screening, license verification and reference checks of candidates.
  • Coordinates the new hire onboarding processes, provides assistance to candidates and managers as needed.
  • Reviews I9 form and confirm work authorization using E-Verify.
  • Maintains employee’s electronic documents.
  • Records employee status updates, such as change of address, departmental transfers, rate increases and terminations, in the HR Information Systems in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of various laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, Title VII, etc.
  • Routinely audit data for accuracy and consistencies.
  • Research and respond to employee and manager’s inquiries and provide instruction where needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all records as required by the company policy and regulatory authorities.
  • Informs Payroll department of any changes to employee status and monitor accuracy.
  • Process vendor invoices.
  • Responds to employment verifications.
  • Assists with gathering documents for audits and subpoenas.
  • Respond to unemployment claims.
  • Distributes department mail.
  • Provide backup support to other Human Resource Specialists and provide support to other HR staff members.
  • All other duties assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3-5 years prior Human Resource experience or education.
  • Prior experience working in a multi-state, government contracting, and overseas environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Excel and Word as well as other database software.
  • Prior experience using ADP, CostPoint, Deltek Talent Management, DocuWare, E-verify.
  • Preferred knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements and the Service Contract Act.
  • Possess solid inter-personal skills, attention to details and ability to multi-task is required.
  • Prior experience working in a medium size corporation (5000 employees) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team in person and via distance utilizing multiple forms of communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
