Partnership for Public Service is Hiring a Manager, Programs Near Washington, DC

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a manager, you will work with federal agency and cross-sector leaders to develop strategies that improve government-wide challenges such as recruiting and hiring talent, strengthening management systems, developing leaders and improving other mission support functions and processes. To accomplish your work, you will have a range of responsibilities including scope and budget management, content and material development, internal and external stakeholder management, and managing programs and events.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in or adjacent to higher educationstrong project management background who also has experience with delegation; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; experience designing and launching new programs and working with funders; experience recruiting interns and early career talent; and demonstrated experience in relationship management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the management of programs and projectsincluding setting goals and objectivesestablishing project plans, developing and monitoring budgets, tracking deliverables and reporting on task completion, risk management, and driving results through program implementation.
  • Manage and facilitate meetings and events, both in-person and virtual, forkey stakeholders including interns, jobseekers, institutions of higher education, corporate partners and/or federal employees in a collaborative environment. 
  • Develop content and design programs focused on hiring talent, leadership development, and/or management efforts to improve the effectiveness of federal government agencies and employees.
  • Work with federal agencies to identify best practices and develop and implement new strategies for recruiting and hiring early career talent, from intern to entry level. 
  • Assist with writing proposals for foundations, corporate sponsors, and/or fee-for-service programs, including designing and pricing content.
  • Build and manage relationships with institutions of higher education, subject matter experts, corporate sponsors and federal employees. 
  • Manage people to ensure effective implementation of programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor program evaluation results and act upon lessons learned to continuously improve programming.
  • Ensure programs achieve intended impacts and meet quality and revenue targets.
  • Represent the Partnership in public and private forums as a speaker and ambassador.

  • Willing and able to work effectively as part of a team across the larger enterprise, gathering and sharing information and insights, collaborating to solve problems, and effectively connecting the federal innovation work to the broader organization.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and to organize multiple and varied projects simultaneously.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or military experience required.
  • Five to seven years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated success leading projects to accomplish results. 
  • Prior professional experience in managing programs with nonprofit organizations, within or adjacent to higher education or working with the federal government preferred. 
  • Prior supervisory responsibilities preferred.
  • Prior intern or student program management preferred. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports to a senior manager, director or vice president. This position will directly or indirectly supervise associates and/or associate managers. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a hybrid (remote office) environment in Washington, DC, and requires the candidate to be a permanent resident in the Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia area. This role is expected to work in the office, on average, two days per week. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer/scanner and MS Office.

In assessing employee performance at the Partnership, we consider collaboration, results, demonstration of our values and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.Our performance review process runs the calendar year; we conduct a performance check-in at mid-year and complete a formal full-year assessment at year end. Salary increases are based on the full-year performance assessment. 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, exempt position with regular work hours Monday-Friday. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. Please note that the Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules.

TRAVEL

If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Very little out of the area and/or overnight travel will be required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary starting between $70,000 to $95,000; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401K program with a 4 percent employer match; commuter benefits; opportunities for training and development; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off; and use of an on-site exercise facility.
