Today, one in three Americans has a criminal record and 64% of adults in the United States have had an immediate or extended family member in jail or prison. Whether directly or indirectly, incarceration now effects the majority of Americans.

Weld Seattle helps people returning home from jail or prison rebuild their lives after they have fulfilled their sentence. Helping a person released from incarceration find a safe place to live, a job, and crucial services is critical to reducing homelessness and recidivism, as well as helping to ensure stability for their children, families, and communities.

Weld provides safe transitional recovery housing in a clean and sober environment, pathways to employment, and reconnection to community. Weld’s simple mission is to provide support systems that keep people from slipping through the cracks.

Weld is a fast-growing grass roots organization that has high aspirations of building a collaborative and holistic service landscape for people impacted by the justice system in the Pacific Northwest. Our new Director of Development will help us realize our goals of prioritizing lived experience in the building and offering of programming in coordination with all stakeholder groups, and setting a standard of care that we know works because we have walked the

POSITION SUMMARY/OVERVIEW

The Director of Development will be responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive fund-raising program for Weld Seattle, with an emphasis on building philanthropic relationships with all community stakeholders; for overseeing marketing, communications, and public relations; and establishing and maintaining a high level of accountability for fund raising quality, grant writing, ethical standards, and effectiveness.

Revenue sources include individuals, foundations, corporations, and government. A comprehensive program includes, but is not limited to individual annual giving, including major gifts; direct mail; capital campaigns; planned giving; special events; grants; sponsorships, and memberships. The Director of Development will meet or exceed annual revenue goals and make recommendations and adjustments as needed. They will also grow revenue year-over-year to support new programs by opportunistically expanding relationships with all funding sources.

The Director of Development builds and coordinates all of the organization’s communications to support the overall development goals and objectives, as well as the efficiency, community position, impact and overall culture of the organization. The Director reports to the Executive Director and will have regular interaction with Weld’s Board of Directors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the development staff to meet revenue budget goals by implementing a variety of fund development activities to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic gifts from all donor groups. 40%
  • Work as part of the team (Executive Director, Program Directors, and Grant Writer) on foundation grants. 10%
  • Execute and manage an annual development and communications strategy that includes annual campaign, major gifts, donor cultivation, events, stewardship activities and prospect identification. 10%
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Advisory Councils to engage all internal stakeholders in fundraising activities. 10%
  • Work closely with service providers to coordinate existing and new fundraising events. 10%
  • Supervise the integrity of donor and volunteer records, gift processing, and acknowledgments. 10%
  • Develop a Major Gifts program to steward donors and solicit gifts over $15,000. 5%
  • Plan and participate in personal solicitations of a portfolio of leadership and campaign donors with Weld Seattle Executive Director, Development staff, Board of Directors, and Advisory Council. 5%
  • Other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in fundraising, with a minimum of 3 years of experience closing gifts at the $25,000 level and above.
  • Experience in effectively engaging and leading staff and leadership in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Demonstrated supervision of professional level staff and ability to motivate and build a team.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork, strategy, management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain supportive and collaborative relationships.
  • Well-organized with strong follow-through and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ambition, resourcefulness, emotional intelligence and ability to effectively problem-solve complex issues.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively, including ability to grasp and effectively communicate complex programmatic priorities to all stakeholders.
  • High-level computer literacy and proficiency with donor databases, G Suite, and the MS Office suite of software applications.
  • Direct lived experience or close relationship with either substance recovery or criminal legal system involvement preferred.
