Overview

This Assistant General Counsel role provides legal advice and counsel in the areas of compliance, privacy, data integrity, cyber, innovation and pharmacy throughout Novant Health. This role works closely with all components of the compliance function, including code of ethics, conflicts of interest, HIPAA counseling and coding. This role also supports the intellectual property and innovation efforts within the system. The ideal candidate has a blend of regulatory and transactional experience. This role reports and takes direction from the SVP Deputy Chief Legal Officer.

Qualifications

• Education: 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree,requiredfrom Undergraduate degree from a recognized college or university. Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school,required.
• Experience: 8 Year Experience in the Practice of Law, required. Previous experience in law firma and a healthcare setting, preferred. Previous experience in management, preferred. 
• Licensure/Certification: Admission to the bar of at least one state or the District of Columbia, required.Additional Skills (required):

  • Essential Functions
    • Provides reliable and well-researched advice on all manner of compliance and regulatory matters.
    • Advises on specific health care issues such as HIPAA, the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback statute, government and private payor billing rules and confidentiality issues.
    • Works closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to maintain an effective and dynamic compliance program.
    • Provides advice on intellectual property matters.
    • Reviews and prepares agreements and contracts.
    • Assists in the development of new policies, procedures and forms for the organization.
    • Complies with and supports department policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Maintains professional competency, according to department policies, procedures, and protocols.
