Norwich University is Hiring an Assistant Director of Residence Life for Student Experience - Norwich University Near Northfield, VT

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by assisting in developing a residential community that promotes student development, leadership, inclusion, and student well-being and success.

This position includes a campus apartment for the length of employment with the University (occupancy while the University is not in session is allowed up to the last day of employment); reserved parking on campus in the civilian residence area; and $3,000 in Dining Dollars provided as a meal stipend in two installments of $1,500 for fall and spring semesters, respectively.

Salary: $42,000/year.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the operations of all traditional Civilian residence halls (roughly 700 students).
  • Coordinates the development of programs and activities within the Commuter community with an emphasis on implementing department's curricular approach for first year and returning residents.
  • Trains and develops student control desk and Corps Transition staff, including recruitment, selection, and supervision in coordination with peer Assistant Director.
  • Assists the Director in developing positive residence hall communities and Civilian Student Experience.
  • Coordinates control desk operations.
  • Assists in student judicial processes.
  • Maintains student success and retention records.
  • Coordinates housing operations, including housing lottery, room assignments, and residential building access in conjunction with Director of Residence Life and Civilian Housing.
  • Delivers and maintains an organized and timely occupancy reporting system.
  • Assists in student billing, inventory, and programming purchases.
  • Serves in the Student Affairs Duty Officer (SADO) on-call rotation while students are on campus.

Other Functions

  • Maintains confidentiality or privacy of sensitive information as appropriate.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on university committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes institutional technology and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Experience supervising/advising college students and student groups, Residence Hall Association experience a plus.
  • Experience with and knowledge of residential education/curriculum and programming a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 20 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
  • Work evening and weekend hours on a rotational basis.

Environmental Condition

  • Indoor work at a computer workstation.
  • Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
