Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by contacting and cultivating prospective students and applicants.

Salary: $43,000/year or more depending on experience.

Essential Functions

  • Makes decision on applicant files to include gathering information for incomplete files, preparing completed applications, making decisions on student applicants, and cultivating applicants from a specific geographic location.
  • Supervises a caseload of 350-500 prospective students.
  • Maintains communication with assigned students on a bi-weekly or monthly basis by utilizing various communication methods including but not limited to phone calls, emails, and text messages.
  • Communicates with families about the various aspects of the college search/decision process both on and off campus, including, but not limited to financial aid, billing, academics, lifestyle, athletics, and student interest clubs.
  • Develops strong relationships with prospective students and their families throughout the admission cycle including personal communication in a written and electronic format, phone calls and personal interaction as necessary.
  • Counsels and advises students about financial aid eligibility, financial aid application procedures, aid programs, costs, and indebtedness.
  • Ensures that all visiting students and families have a pleasant and informative visit to campus by supporting the success of various student-visit programs through conducting information sessions, campus tours, one-on-one interviews, virtual events, and collaborating with a wide variety of departments and offices across campus.
  • Represents the University at on and off-campus events including open houses, regional events, and academic showcases and strategic high school visits.
  • Plans and executes travel in select geographic areas to include college fairs, classroom presentations and individual meetings with applicants, often including some nights and weekends.
  • Obtains one collateral or secondary responsibility within the department as assigned by supervisor and may change depending on availability and office reorganization.
  • Participates in university-wide functions, meetings, trainings, and announcements that can include multiple departments, as necessary.
  • Supports fellow co-workers in a respectful and efficient way as it relates to the responsibilities described above.
  • Builds relationships with Athletic coaches and attends regular athletic meetings.
  • Trains coaches on Slate expectations and essential tasks.
    • Informs coaches of optional Slate tools for increasing recruiting efforts.
    • Responsible for creating and monitoring reports of athletic activity in Slate, making suggestions to improve efficiency and ROI as needed.
    • Serves as liaison between Athletic coaches and Slate CRM administrator to streamline and prioritize requests.
  • Reports back to Admissions ongoing athletic recruiting initiatives.
  • Serves as primary visitation support for Football Fridays, prospect clinics, and other athletic events hosted in conjunctions with the Admissions and Athletics offices
  • Reviews athletic communications from coaches to ensure they are meeting the brand standards. Guides them on best practices to increase open and click through rates.
  • Creates initiatives to encourage more students to complete the Prospective Athlete Questionnaire.
  • Gathers athletic assets (photos, videos, testimonials, statistics, etc.) from the Athletic Communications team to support Admissions digital and print needs.
  • Reviews all athletic-related recruitment web pages to ensure they are up to date. Communicates to web teams if any changes are needed.
  • Tracks athletic- related budget requests (meal tickets, gas cards, flights, print materials, admissions "swag" items, etc.)
  • Serves as a mentor for new coaches, ensure they are trained on Norwich admissions requirements, financial aid, information sessions, campus tours, visitation, etc.
  • Trains new admissions staff on how to "sell" athletics at Norwich.

Other Functions

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups or other designated bodies as assigned.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  • Speaks, reads and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Additional Admissions/Recruitment experience may substitute for completed degree.
  • Admissions/Recruitment experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both written and oral), presentation experience, sales/marketing skills, ability to handle multiple priorities and the ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Military experience, military school experience or ROTC experience(s) a plus, but not required
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook)
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 20 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
  • Work some evening or weekend hours
  • Travel as needed (public or private transportation)

Environmental Conditions

  • Indoor work at a computer workstation.
  • Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
