The Nursing Success Specialist will collaborate with faculty, staff, and leadership to design, develop, and implement new strategies for nursing student retention and success for students in any nursing program. In addition, this position is expected to adapt existing support services to retain nursing students and identify areas of needed change that would increase student retention in a continuous improvement environment. The individual filling this position is directly accountable to the Director of Nursing for the following duties and responsibilities:

The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carryout its mission.

  • Provide a positive, student-centered learning environment to promote student success.
  • Demonstrate competency related to all aspects of the NCLEX-RN including knowledge of NCLEX-RN test plan, test taking strategies, and NCLEX-RN preparation products.
    • Collaborate with nursing faculty, staff, and leadership to increase the success of students admitted to all nursing programs. This will be accomplished by:
    • Arranging group tutoring sessions for additional help with nursing curricular content and study skills at all levels.
    • Providing or coordinating individual coaching of students regarding nursing curricular content, study skills, test review, skills practice, and life coping skills.
    • Meeting one-on-one with at-risk students regularly to evaluate the success of implemented strategies.
    • Researching and recommending supplemental learning resources for use by students.
    • Assisting clinical and classroom faculty in reviewing and evaluating student performance.
    • Making recommendations to enhance the success of students in the nursing program.
    • Monitoring and documenting student progress towards successful course and licensure outcomes.
    • Tracking usage of the retention program and the impact on student success.
  • Collect and organize information on the reasons students withdraw from the programs.
    • Utilize mentoring and coaching skills to guide students in their attempts to achieve their highest scores on program exams.
    • Maintain communication with students to assist them in achieving course objectives.
    • Through data collection and analysis, identify students that require specialized advising and tutoring related to nursing curricular content.
    • Actively monitor and document individual student progress and provide remediation and direction as needed.
    • Identify at-risk graduates and implement review plans and monitoring post-graduation.
    • Collaborate with leadership team to achieve NCLEX-RN goals. Monitor quarterly and annual licensure pass rates.
    • Analyze relevant student data from course-related exams to identify gaps in outcomes in collaboration with the leadership team. Assist in development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum as appropriate.
    • Review program exams and statistical analyses to determine that program guidelines are met.
    • Manage an assigned caseload of advisees for the RN to BSN program.
    • Refer students to the appropriate additional academic success resources.
    • Participate in recruitment efforts for all nursing programs.
    • Adapt and develop as an academic specialist in response to the dynamic nature of nursing education.
  • Engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing, the Dean of Health Sciences, and/or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Participate in department meetings and committees.
  • Participate in commencement ceremonies.
  • Complete mandatory compliance training.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree. Bachelor's degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Current Florida RN or APRN License (single or multi-state) required (or eligible for Florida licensure).
  • Minimum of two years' professional nursing experience.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to organize time and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with students, faculty peers, and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or doctoral degree (Nursing, Nursing Education, or closely related degree).
  • Demonstrated experience with technology-based instruction.
  • Teaching experience in a nursing program.
  • Educational and/or experiential background to support coaching and evaluating students.
