The Achievement Mentor emboldens student success by building connections with students through sharing of real-world life experiences, coaching, and support focused on positive outcomes in academic and career pathways. This role will report directly to the Associate Director, Tutoring and Academic Intervention Services.

  • Fosters persistence and completion by maintaining a caseload of students, some of which are economically disadvantaged and underrepresented.
  • Regularly monitors student progress using early alert and scheduling software.
  • Provides coaching to students either weekly or bi-weekly on how to navigate college with confidence, improving their chances of successful completion in a degree or program.
  • Coordinates meetings with students through individual appointments, group sessions, and other proactive methods.
  • Able to deliver support to students in goal setting, time management, organization, study skills, and other academic topics supporting student success.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to student success, displaying a can-do attitude and excellent soft skills. Outreach efforts will include texting, emailing, and phone calls.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and professional working relationship with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff in navigating student success.
  • Refers students to other departments for support, and coordinates as needed.
  • Responds promptly to student inquiries via walk-ins, telephone, and electronic inquiries.
  • Maintains student privacy and confidentiality.
  • Participates in regular meetings, professional development, and other mandatory training as required.
  • Assists in the development of supplemental materials and workshops focused on student success.
  • Demonstrates excellence in written and verbal communication, data entry, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Travels to different campus locations as needed to meet with students.
  • As a part of the College's risk management tool annual mandatory compliance training is required
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required preferably in education, social work, counseling, or other related field.
  • Experience with individual or group coaching, academic support services, and teaching courses aimed at student success preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Experience in post-secondary education preferred.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to deal with a diverse population in a positive, courteous, understanding, and professional manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication and problem solving ability.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to scheduling needs and willing to travel to other campus locations, if necessary.
