New York University is Hiring a Chief Administrative and Business Officer Near New York, NY

Position Summary

The Chief Administrative and Business Officer is a strategic administrative partner to the Dean of the NYU Gallatin School, the chief financial steward and leader of administrative support services. The ideal candidate will identify, mobilize and ensure that the School’s faculty, students, fellows, and staff receive high quality administrative support in compliance with University policies and procedures which includes risk mitigation. This role reports to the Dean, with aspects of joint accountability to the Chief Financial Officer of the University on matters related to financial and budgetary responsibility as well as risk management.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • School-wide strategic initiatives that advance the administration and mission of the individual School and the University
  • General and Administrative operations (i.e. human resources, research, and continuous process improvement)

  • Accountability to the Dean Achievement of the Dchool’s mission and goals by working in close partnership with the School’s leadership, faculty, staff, students and service providers to develop and implement the School’s administrative strategy
  • Understands and monitors external and internal factors influencing the School’s mission and goals
  • Plans for financial and non-financial resources required for the School to achieve its goals
  • Full scope of role includes business operations and management including but not limited to human resources, quality assurance, administrative services, liaising/partnering with appropriate functional units for subject matter expertise
  • Represents the Dean in a decision-making capacity to the University's central administrative offices
  • Collaborates with the Dean, in supporting the School and program leaders in conceptualizing, prioritizing, and planning new programs or changes
  • Supports, and when necessary drives, the School’s process for strategic planning with key faculty and staff in appropriately supporting administrative priorities
  • Finance & Budget Management/Research Administration/Compliance
  • Joint Accountability to the Chief Financial Officer (the chief financial officer is responsible for providing annual assessment of the incumbent’s performance relative to this area)
  • Provides comprehensive financial information, analysis and advice to optimize use of the organization’s financial resources
  • Creates and updates long range financial plans, reflecting all critical issues
  • Identifies available financial resources (current and future), and advise and deploy efficiently to best support School’s objectives
  • Prepares all-funds budgets, analyzes financial activities and performance against budget, makes adjustments and takes action when needed
  • Serves as the liaison to central University offices in the areas of budget, treasury, accounting & reporting, payroll, risk management, procurement, internal audit and other offices as needed
  • Implements and maintains strong internal controls to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements. Identifies, communicates, addresses and escalates risks in a timely and appropriate manner to protect the assets, resources, information and reputation of the School and the University
  • Ensures all faculty and staff understand the regulations and NYU’s requirements as they pertain to their scope of activity
  • Establishes, monitors, and meets or exceeds targets for operational excellence
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to achieve continuous improvement of processes
  • Responsible for building and managing a team of high-performance administrative and financial professionals
  • University Citizen Connects the organization and the University through communication, alignment of priorities, implementation of initiatives, and active engagement in organization or University administrative priorities
  • Effectively represents organization needs, challenges, and opportunities at the University level
  • Proactively shares knowledge and best practices with others

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree Preferred Education:Master's Degree MBA or advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related fieldRequired Experience:7 years progressively responsible experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and analysis. Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation. Demonstrated experience in managing relationships and influencing outcomes. Demonstrated creativity and effectiveness in a complex organization. Demonstrated success in developing people and organizations. Strong cost management experience. Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and analysis. Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Thorough working knowledge of finance, fund accounting, and financial reporting analysis. Demonstrated ability preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans; integrating multiple complex pieces of financial information to identify themes, trends, and issues. Expertise in a highly regulated organization. Demonstrate ability to manage costs and achieve financial results in line with committed budget. Well-developed managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to manage people on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance. High-level strategic planning skills. Visionary with ability to influence. Ability to generate a strategic vision and to influence people to achieve this vision. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels throughout the University. Ability to negotiate skillfully with both internal and external constituents. Ability to anticipate changes in the business environment and proactively manage change. Strong computer skills including Excel. Solid understanding of internal control concepts and the implementation of internal control systems in a complex business environment.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of NYU’s administrative policies and procedures. Experience with fiscal matters. Work experience or training in multiple aspects of the School’s mission.f

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $180,000.00 to USD $220,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
