Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Library Operations, the LibraryAssistant I will be responsible for providing customer service functions,clerical support duties essential to the library’s operations, and collecting,verifying, and reporting usage statistics. The incumbent must perform assignedduties independently and reliably with minimum supervision. The successfulcandidate will have an eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and theability to make independent judgments. The incumbent will work a flexibleon-site schedule which may vary depending on the academic calendar and libraryneeds.
A typical work schedule assignment: fall and spring semesters: Tuesday toThursday from 4:00 pm to midnight, Friday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, andSaturday from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm; Summer terms: Monday to Thursday from 1:00 pmto 9:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Between semesters: Monday toFriday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work a closing shift. Work a flexible schedulebased on the library’s closing schedule. Work an overtime schedule as assigned.

Essential Functions: Customer Service and Engagement (60%)
- Welcome students, faculty, staff, and visitors and ensure all are treated respectfully.
- Perform at least 15 hours per week of service desk duties, including, but not limited to, working the access service desk and assisting with patron inquiries, complaints, and reservations.
- Register and renew patron accounts, process library materials, collect fees/fines, and perform circulation and clerical tasks.
- Process group study and meeting room reservations, answer phone calls, and reply to emails.
- Interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors when delivering services; demonstrate initiative with problem-solving issues; and interpret and make exceptions to Library policies as appropriate.
- Secure library materials, equipment, and facilities and take necessary action to assure the safety of library patrons.
- Perform simple to intermediate information searches using library discovery platforms and electronic databases.
- Operate and troubleshoot computer workstations and printers in the Information Commons computer lab.
- Train and direct other Library Assistants and student employees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Usage Data Collection (30%)
- Under their supervisor’s direction, liaise with library staff to collect, gather, store, and distribute usage statistics from vendors, Alma and Primo, other related systems, and other internal and external reporting applications.
- Verify the data collected from various sources to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with the librarians to develop quality control of collected data.
- Ensure documentation of usage data collection complies with policies and procedures.
- Make independent decisions based on common sense and good judgment.

Additional Functions: 
Performs duties in one of the following essential functions as assigned.
- Acquisitions - acquire, pay for, and process physical books, periodicals, and media items. Serve as the first line of contact with various vendors to resolve related issues.
- Cataloging and Processing - perform copy cataloging and processing of physical books, periodicals, and related materials.
- Collection Maintenance - shelve library materials, shelf-read, and direct student employees to perform collection maintenance activities.
- Digitization - scan, store, and manipulate digital content such as images, maps, manuscripts, theses/dissertations, documents, archives, special collections, etc.
- Fulfillment Management: perform access service activities related to course reserves, check-in and check-out, processing holds and lost items, curbside pickups, and billings and notices.
- General Administration - receive work direction from the Business Manager to process payment of invoices using Banner and eMerchant (ERP), Alma and Rialto (Library systems). As needed, liaise between the library, finance departments, and external vendors to address invoice issues. Distribute library mail.
- Resource Sharing - perform resource-sharing activities related to interlibrary loan borrowing, lending, and document delivery.
- Serials Management - check-in, shelve, claim, and maintain periodicals, journals, magazines, and newspapers.
Prerequisite Qualifications: 
- Associate degree in related disciplines or at least 60 credits earned toward a bachelor’s degree.
- Three (3) years of customer service experience, with one (1) year of circulation/access services library experience.
- Evidence of reliability, attendance, punctuality, and trustworthiness to work the closing shift with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with computer systems (Microsoft suite, Google suite), experience with library databases and web applications. Must possess intermediate-level Excel skills.
- Must be able to bend, lift, and shelve books of various sizes and weights and push a book truck weighing up to 50 pounds.
- A formal education and experience prerequisites may be waived at the university’s discretion if the candidate can demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience, specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
