Description Job Title : Food Service Manager
Reports to: Director of Early Childhood Education Center
Status: Full Time; Exempt ($48,000-$51,000)
Location: East Side Neighborhood Services (in office)

POSITION SUMMARY The individual will assist with ordering, managing inventory, food rescue, kitchen clean up and food preparation, cooking, and serving.
DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
- Performs cooking duties
- Perform assigned tasks under supervision of the center director
- Maintain standards of safety which include, but are not limited to, caring for and the use of knives, handling chemicals and operating fire extinguishers
- Maintain standards of sanitation regarding grooming, clothing, food handling, and equipment
- Assume leadership in preparation of food within established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and service methods, and food handling techniques to ensure acceptable standards
- Is knowledgeable about nutrition requirements regarding portions and components of each meal service.
- Does daily food production records per USDA standards for portions and components.
- Ensures current menu is posted.
- Ensures changes to menu are properly documented on the menu.
- Inventories food and non-food items and submits orders on or before the deadline.
- Under supervisor's direction, performs menu plan, adjusts for nutritionally equivalent food substitutes, leftovers, and plans for emergencies
- Responsible for local food and food supply purchases
- Prepares meals based on individual child dietary needs per medical needs
- Receive food invoices and receipts, record daily child participation
- Perform duties assigned which may include, but are not limited to, cleaning the kitchen, kitchenette, and storage room in basement.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications EDUCATION : Manager Serv Safe required, High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred
RELATIONSHIPS : Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with childcare staff.
External: Maintains contact with local vendors for procurements.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Interpersonal skills
Cooking experience in working with a Food Service Program
Must have knowledge of equipment necessary for production of food
Interpersonal skills
Ability to accept responsibility for assigned duties, ability to understand verbal/written instructions/reports
Good attendance history in previous position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Physically able to perform duties which may include, but not be limited to lifting (min. of 50 lbs), bending, moving, etc.
Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
Working environment includes equipment operating at high temperatures.
Attend conferences, meetings or other duties carried out at local sites in the Twin Cities Metro area.
Noise level in work environment may be moderate to loud.
Work is typically performed in a kitchen, but some office work may be required.
Compensation : $48,000-$51,000,
dependent upon qualifications. Benefits: Paid medical, dental, and life insurance, Retirement match option, generous paid time off, 11 paid holidays.
Working Environment: Breakfast: 8:45 am for 70 children.
Infants may have different food requirements than toddlers and preschoolers depending on their age.
Serving amounts will follow CACFP-USDA amounts that are posted.
We serve hot and cold breakfasts alternating.
We have medical and allergy related food diets. Training on dietary needs.
We serve 4 to 5 different kinds of milks all labeled for lactose intolerance, allergy, medical needs.
Kitchen staff gets carts with utensils etc. ready for each classroom (there are 4 carts)
Breakfast dishes taken back to kitchen and washed/sanitized for lunch use
Lunch
Infants and toddlers eat at 11:30.
Preschool eats at 12:00
Daily numbers for meal counts will be given at end of breakfast for lunch.
Dietary meals and alternates prepped and served still have to meet CACFP guidelines.
Will be trained on which rooms get what.
We serve 4 to 5 different kinds of milks all labeled per child. These are for lactose intolerance, allergy or medical needs.

Dishes taken back to kitchen and washed/sanitized for lunch use
Dishes sorted and returned to kitchenette.
- Call in milk/dairy order done every Wednesday for delivery on Thursdays.
- USDA food production records daily per meal, annual procurement of bids for costs, maintains menu for posting, does ordering of supplies, must keep basement storage unit organized and clean.
- There is bulk ordering if applicable otherwise weekly grocery list goes to director for ordering and payment thru Instacart/Biznow.
- 2x year Health Department inspections
USDA/CACFP training held yearly for updates
