Nebraska Alliance of Child Advocacy Centers is Hiring an Accounting Specialist Near Omaha, NE

Job Summary:
The Nebraska Alliance is seeking a full-time detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our team as an Accounting Specialist. This role will be responsible for ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions while adhering to organizational policies and best practices. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Accounting Specialist will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of the Nebraska Alliance. This role requires effective communication skills and following general accounting principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Input all financial transactions into the accounting system (QuickBooks Online) accurately and in a timely manner while adhering to the Nebraska Alliance policies.
  • Enter and maintain accurate journal entries of all income and expenses incurred by the organization.
  • Review and verify all invoices/check requests have the appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment. Communicate with vendors or CACs if proper documentation is not provided.
  • Process payments, reconcile bank accounts, and generate monthly financial statements while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting and financial reporting best practices.
  • Monitor expenses, cash flow, and provide budget analysis, comparing actual expenses against the budget and providing variance analysis.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and areas of improvement.
  • Manage grant funds, tracking expenditures and assisting in the preparation of financial grant reports while ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Assist in future budget forecast modeling.
  • Prepare/submit tax documents and support annual filings and audit preparation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial record keeping systems (electronic and paper) that ensure appropriate confidentiality and security.
  • Manage accounting software, including updates, customization, and troubleshooting.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership on financial planning, reporting, and long-term financial strategy development to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as identified by the Director of Operations.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Training and education relevant to accounting, finance, business administration or a related field preferred. 2 years or more of professional experience in accounting or bookkeeping and proficiency in QuickBooks online is required.
  • Preference for experience in grant accounting or bookkeeping with nonprofit organizations or human services sector, especially membership organizations or networks.
  • Current knowledge and expertise in the best practice of nonprofit accounting standards and compliance in financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Zoom.
  • Ability to input data into multiple systems efficiently and accurately to ensure a high standard of quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with others on the team and with our member organizations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team, and to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional work ethic including efficient time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Remarkable attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Respect for confidentiality and strong ethical standards.
  • Desire to work as a member of a dynamic, mission-driven team.

Pay and Benefits

The starting salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $50,000.

The Nebraska Alliance offers flexible and remote work hours, 403(b) retirement account with employer match, 13 paid holidays a year including office closure between December 25th – January 1st, personal days, 18 days of paid time off in the first year of employment, ten weeks of paid family and medical leave in qualifying circumstances, time off to volunteer at local non-profits and an employee assistance program.
