Navajo Technical University is Hiring a Human resource assistant Near Gallup, NM

JOB PURPOSE :

Provides and supports department staff. Performs a variety of tasks related to employee record-keeping and handles sensitive employee and company information that requires maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Assists with all areas of human resources (employment, recruitment, benefits, and training). Assists with paperwork for functional areas in accordance to established policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensures excellent customer service with all internal and external customers.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Maintains, reviews and ensures accuracy on employee records.
  • Maintains job classifications, new hires, separation, and transfers and assists with the Payroll Change Notices.
  • Assists with monitoring log and provides assistance in the screening of job candidates
  • Reviews department documentation for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides routine, day-to-day advice to employees regarding the implementation and interpretation of processes, recruitment, and other HR policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Assists with posting and advertising vacant positions
  • Prepares the interview packet for the interview panel committee members.
  • Assists in maintaining job description and employee evaluation
  • Ensures confidentiality of all employee benefits records and information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :

  • High School Diploma (Associate's degree preferred)
  • Two years of operational experience in multiple disciplines of Human Resources.
  • Must be able to understand and speak conversational Navajo.
  • Valid and clean state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

The Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act applies to all hiring, promotions or transfers of individuals into this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS :

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and trends in recruitment and employment; benefits; record-keeping systems; and performance development and evaluation systems.
  • Knowledge of EEO, ACA, HIPPA, COBRA, and other states, federal and tribal HR laws.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating job content and writing accurate job descriptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to research, evaluate and analyze new techniques, methods, and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee f requently stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
  • Use hands for dexterity of motion, Repetitive movement of both hands .
  • The employee must occasionally carry up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is typically performed within an office setting .
