Job Summary:

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is a premier government science organization with approximately 8,500 employees. USGS monitors, analyzes, and predicts current and evolving Earth-system interactions and delivers actionable intelligence at scales and time frames relevant to decision makers. USGS provides science about natural hazards, natural resources, ecosystems and environmental health, and the effects of climate and land-use change. USGS employs approximately 1,500 Hydrologic Technician’s that work in all 50 states and territories. They are located at 28 water science centers in all seven regions, with a handful in the Water Mission Area, and at the Volcano Science Center. The USGS regional science centers have a need for consulting support services to conduct a workforce analysis and development of a workforce plan in support of the Water Science Center’s Hydrologic Technician (GS-1316 occupational series) as described below.

Akima Systems Engineering is looking for a Workforce Analyst/Business Analyst to conduct activities necessary to collect pertinent information for agency stakeholders (including but no limited to USGS Managers, Supervisors, Hydrologic Technicians, and human resources staff) and analyze the information and data collected.

Job Responsibilities:

• Carries out professional judgment in planning and accomplishing assigned tasks.

• Ability to identify when data on one or more parameters are not available.

• Carries out research/development activities to evaluate workforce metrics, attrition, and productivity to improve future workforce capabilities.

• Collects data from outsides sources, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.

• Compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes.

• Familiar with a variety of workforce analysis concepts, practices, and procedures.

• Analyzes data collected through qualitative and quantitative research methods, to identify gaps that exist based on data collected and determine staffing needs for current and future workforces.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in workforce analytics and business.

• Ability to interact with senior leadership.

• Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

• Experienced in workforce analysis.
