Mount Hermon Association is Hiring a Senior Director of Human Resources Near Mount Hermon, CA

Overview

General Qualifications:

The Mount Hermon Senior Director of Human Resources will be a member of the Leadership Team, reporting to the President/CEO, and is responsible for providing strategic long-range leadership in planning, compliance, best practices, organizing, directing, implementing and evaluating the Human Resources functions for Mount Hermon Association, Inc., (MHA) in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon's mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct. 

The Senior Director of Human Resources is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming MHA's Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which include prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Ensures ongoing compliance across the organization with federal, state, and local employment wage and hour laws, including bi-annual training requirements.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day HR functions with all MHA sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains and at Kidder Creek, including talent acquisition and onboarding activities and requirements, FLSA compliance, update employee handbooks as needed and within established budget.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and career development of 190 year-round staff and 300 summer/seasonal staff. 
  • Provide coaching and training to managers as needed to enable them to effectively lead and manage their teams within the requirements of federal, state and local law.
  • Partner with executive leadership and middle managers to strategically and creatively employ the HR function to further the goals and objectives of MHA and its various departments, including but not limited to administering the performance and development management process.
  • Participate as an active member of the MHA Safety Committee.
  • Oversee, administer and communicate MHA benefits for eligible MHA staff in partnership with MHA’s benefits broker.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with workers’ compensation requirements. Train staff as necessary.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, prepare reports and recommend appropriate actions to senior management.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Full-time position; $72,000-$105,000/year. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains HR staff and oversees the daily workflow of the department for the following staff:

  • Human Resources Coordinator
  • Recruiting Specialist

Qualifications

Ideal Education/Certifications/Licenses/Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of increasingly responsible human resource leadership within an organization of $5M or more in revenue.
  • HR certification a plus (SHRM, SPHR, etc.)
  • A Bachelor's degree in human resources or applicable/related field. Master's degree is a plus. 
  • Experience serving with complex legacy organizations would be helpful. 
  • Prior experience working with a camp or other non-profit organization beneficial.
  • Experience in recruiting a large seasonal workforce is welcomed.

  • Ability to inspire, encourage and motivate program an cross-department staff, specifically from a Human Resources perspective to the reality of Jesus being the center of all of Mount Hermon's efforts. 
  • Ability to discern, suggest and apply additions, changes and sunsetting to Human Resources policy. 
  • Confidently manage the HR staff and ensure policies are effectively implemented. 
  • Ability to think strategically in business as it integrates with Human Resources. 
  • Strong talent identification and acquisition skills. 
  • In conjunction with department leaders to assist with recruiting efforts--specifically during peak seasonal requirements (MHA hires 300 seasonal staff starting in the November preceding the following summer season.)
  • Ability to guide, counsel and fairly arbitrate conflict resolution processes between employee and employee and manager resulting in sound and positive resolutions. 
  • Ability to advise management on the short and long-term human resource implications of alternative business actions; provides appropriate guidance on employees/supervisors relative to employee performance and relations issues. 
  • Ability to advise management on the short and long-term human resource implications of MHA's "Statement of Beliefs." 
  • Keep abreast of HR trends and best practices. Assists with the implementation of company initiatives and customization of HR policies. 
  • Ensure Employee Benefit Plans are in line with management philosophy, address employee needs and meet regulatory and budget constraints.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with State, Federal, EEO, ADA, OSHA, and other legal requirements. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems and Customer Relation Management tools, i.e., ICIMS (for recruiting), Criterion (for payroll) and Basecamp (for project management.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, G-Suite and related software.
  • Ensure ongoing coaching and compliance across the organization with federal, state, and local employment and wage and hour laws, including bi-annual training requirements. 

Additional Requirements

  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • May require occasional travel.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
