And lately, we’ve been on a new business roll and would love to add the right person to our team of idea addicts and behavioral sleuths. 

Job Summary
 The Strategy Director is responsible for impacting the quality of creative work in a direct and positive way by applying understanding of the customer. This person will lead research, development, and implementation of customer, category, cultural, and competitive insights for clients. They will be responsible for conducting research, uncovering insights, mapping audience personas and customer journeys, developing content strategy, and establishing benchmarks/measurement plans. They will contribute to the creation and implementation of integrated strategies for traditional and digital channels and tactics that drive increased awareness, consideration, conversion, site/store traffic, leads, and retention.

The Strategy Director is an excellent communicator and a great listener with a natural inclination to learn and stay ahead in the evolving digital space. They will work closely with internal and client teams to ensure creative outputs are on strategy and work is achieving business results.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead strategy on accounts and contribute to new business pitches
  • Lead large projects such as pitches, brand positioning, and annual planning
  • Play an instrumental role in client pitches, new business, and preparing creative directives
  • Represent the customer in all aspects of client-agency interaction from brief to execution
  • Conduct primary and secondary research to uncover customer, category, competitive, and cultural insights
  • Be the expert of cultural trends and insights
  • Establish trusted partnerships with cross-functional teams and clients, presenting strategic insights and recommendations with confidence and clarity
  • Analyze a wide range of data/information to identify market trends, opportunities, and inform strategic recommendations
  • Develop briefs and other strategy artifacts that:
    1. Share insightful and actionable customer strategies that align with client objectives
    2. Address key business challenges
    3. Articulate the purpose and value proposition of the brand/product/service
    4. Demonstrate deep understanding of customer values, beliefs, and needs 
    5. Inspire the creative team
    6. Ignite cultural conversation
    7. Establish clear and measurable objectives, KPIs
  • Present insights, briefs, and recommendations to internal teams and clients, while not being afraid to respectfully challenge assumptions
  • Review creative and provide strategic feedback
  • Develop customer journeys and personas
  • Identify emerging culture, technology, customer, and content trends and opportunities

  • Lead and manage junior talent, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • 6 – 8 years in consumer strategy, brand planning, market research, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful customer-driven marketing campaigns
  • Passionate about customer insights and understanding what makes people tick
  • Proven track record of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound critical thinking skills and maintaining composure in stressful situations

Analytical Thinking

  • Probes easily and deeply into important detail on complex strategic and marketing issues.
  • Breaks down complex client problems and issues skillfully to ensure that solutions are appropriately tailored to their needs.
  • Deep understanding of diverse media channels, especially digital, to pioneer a next-generation connections planning function.

Conceptual Thinking

  • Drives a clear and concise synthesis of complex issues and concepts and communicates this in a way that both clients and the agency team can readily apprehend.
  • Takes an enterprise-level view of issues and implications to drive understanding, revenue, and shareholder value.

  • Advertising agency experience
  • Branding experience
  • B2C and B2B experience; experience working with diverse clients and industries a plus
  • Business development experience
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Mintel, IBISWorld, Gartner/Iconoculture, Resonate and other research tools
