Misericordia Home is Hiring a Director of Nursing Near Chicago, IL

About Misericordia:

Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. By serving society’s most vulnerable citizens, Misericordia also serves the families who want the best for them yet cannot provide it at home.

Through a spectrum of residential options on its 37-acre Chicago campus and in the community, and with a wide variety of programs, Misericordia currently serves more than 600 children and adults residentially, from diverse racial, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. Twenty percent of our residents either come from poverty families or have no families and are wards of the State.

Misericordia Director of Nursing Overview:

Work cooperatively with the Director of Nursing as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Nursing. This includes being aware of resident/family concerns. Work collaboratively on budgetary concerns, personnel issues & training, and regulatory compliance. Regularly communicate with AVP of Nursing any concerns or needs that are noticed in their areas. Work cooperatively with the Director of Nursing in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all residents in an atmosphere which promotes quality, respect, and dignity of the person. Support and promote the values connected to the Community of Believers: quality of life, responsibility, connection, and spirituality. Actively support your team members in the nursing department to insure they are on-boarded, thoroughly trained, engaged with and developed to their full potential throughout their employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Misericordia philosophy, purpose, and services. Aware of policies and procedures concerning residents, families, personnel, and more specific nursing policies and procedures. Involvement in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Support staff retention efforts by actively supporting, engaging and developing nurses hired for all areas. Maintain high level of employee morale through leadership skills and attendance at monthly meetings.
  • Assist with the recruiting, hiring process, training and ongoing in-service as assigned.
  • Foster teamwork with all residential areas. Collaborate on the area specific needs for medical/nursing support.
  • Ensure employee HR file requirements are up to date (physicals, PPD, CPR, annual training requirements, evaluations, etc.). Implement policies as appropriate. Insure each nurse receives the evaluation on time.
  • Complete ADP payroll processing accurately and in a timely manner. Adhere to the Fair Workweek Ordinance with regards to compliance, scheduling and record keeping requirements of covered employees.
  • Ensure that payroll schedule spanning one pay period at a time and weekly assignments are submitted to nurses in a timely manner.
  • Foster an ongoing relationship with the pharmacy personnel in an effort to ensure all medications are available as ordered.
  • Have a working knowledge of minimum standards, rules, regulations for licensing and certification of residential areas.
  • Participate in the planning & budgeting for nursing services, including purchasing necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Active involvement in staffings as needed. Review staffing list with DON to discuss need for a nurse to attend. Insure the nurse that attends is well versed in the residents needs and possible concerns that the guardian may have related to the medical year in review.
  • Active involvement in clinics as needed. Insure the nurses assigned to the clinic are able to manage the preparation and implementation of clinic paper work and any follow up that is needed.
  • Attend medical meetings when scheduled. Complete the needed paper work before the meeting.
  • Participation in admissions, discharges, functional decline meetings, and resident transfers as assigned.
  • Maintain open communication with all departments. Includes residential, therapy, dietary, vocational, social service, business office, maintenance, housekeeping, personnel, security and consultants.
  • Participate in area Strategic Plan. Assist with the implementation of new programs (IT – AWARDS and CaraSolva).
  • Supports and supervises the nursing secretary and other non-medical staff.
  • Share the responsibility of chairing the Infection Control Committee and Pharmacy Committee meetings.
  • Participates in the Risk Management meetings (identifies potential risks).
  • Participate as a committee member as assigned.
  • Strive to continually be aware resident changing needs and respond to those needs while maintaining the highest level of quality care for the residents. Perform periodic chart reviews to ensure that the plan of care is being followed per physician's orders.
  • Be aware of parent/family/guardian needs and be responsive to those needs. Keep AVP Nursing informed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident records and medical information.
  • Attend Misericordia Family Association meetings and any other Misericordia functions as assigned.
  • Report regularly to assigned AVP Nursing and VP Clinical Services.
  • Assist with 24 hours a day “on-call” responsibilities as needed.
  • Varied hours to connect to all shifts.
  • Mandated Reporter
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Illinois Registered nurse
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Supervisory experience
  • Leadership skills and/or experience, including but not limited to project management,
  • training, mentoring staff, etc.
  • Proven initiative and responsibility; high degree of professionalism
  • Proven ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with residents, families, and staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
