Milhouse Engineering & Construction is Hiring a Structural Engineer III Near Chicago, IL

We are searching for a Structural Engineer III who is able to provide structural support for various types of projects, including work for commercial, industrial, federal clients. Must be able to adapt to quick project turnarounds and various types of engineering. Typical responsibilities include field inspections, reporting, documentation, structure design and analysis, design calculations, construction engineering support for contractors, various structural support for our Civil, Power, Gas and Aviation groups.

What you will do:

  • Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete service.
  • Review building/bridge structures and foundations for existing and proposed uses.
  • Work with existing processes to correctly open analysis projects.
  • Perform analyses on projects of all levels of complexity using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods.
  • Mentoring and edification of project team members with less experience.
  • Responsible for leading the design team and ensuring that the project meets all of the client's requirements. They do this by providing technical expertise, managing the project schedule and budget, and communicating with the client and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the overall quality of deliverables and client satisfaction for the project.
  • Identify and resolve problems that arise during project execution.
  • Think critically and creatively to find solutions that meet the client's needs.
  • Able to supervise or mentor team members at less senior positions.
  • Work with Designer staff on the development of modification drawings. 
  • Design modification for tower reinforcing, extensions, and foundations. 
  • Provide assistance on unusual problems.
  • Ensure accurate project status reporting to facilitate accurate customer and sales reporting. 
What we are looking for:
  • Knowledge including, but not limited to, the following software systems: AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA-3D, STAAD, Tedds, D-CALC, L-Pile, Geopak, LEAP, ETABS, and MathCAD.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Your background:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, or Structural Engineering, plus 6-10 years of structural engineering experience.
  • P.E License
  • S.E a plus
  • Able to design concrete, steel and masonry structures.
  • Knowledge of wind design, seismic load determination, and drift load calculations per ASCE 7.
  • Familiarity with the design of components and lateral force resisting systems (i.e. braced frames, shear walls, and moment frames) and detailing requirements contained in ACI, AISC, NDS and TMS 602.
  • Requires domestic travel to job sites up to 25% of total duty time.
